Major issue!

Okay here is the problem. I noticed a couple thousand miles ago that I was beggining to hear a popping type sound when I would come to a stop or even when I was sitting on the bike just moving around positioning myself. It would even do it as I was swinging my leg off every now and then. I noticed this about the same time I had my fork seals replaced so my logical thinking was since it seemed to be doing this anytime that weight or force was making the forks expand or contract that maybe something was not tightened down correctly at the dealer. So I removed the cowl under the nose and checked all the bolts at the triple tree, around the fork mounts, and all of that. Everything was snug. So I then serviced the bike and checked all the other nuts and bolts. I can not find any loose ones. I am still hearing this noise so I am like okay I am gonna take it to the dealer and see what happens.

I just now got back from Suzuki. I told the service manager about the noise and I said if you just sit on the bike, roll it forward, and slam the front brakes you will hear a loud popping sound. So he says he is gonna go get his head technician and they would look at it. He comes back in about 5 minutes later and says well I found your problem and its not in the suspension. He said my FRAME sliders were causing the noise. So instantly I am like what the hell??? He takes me out and sits on the bike and tells me to put my hand on the slider as he rolls the bike forward and hits the brake. He seems to be correct I can totally FEEL the pop in the puck of the slider on the right side of the bike but you can't feel it on the left. So I ask him what the hell would cause that because in 18,000 miles of riding its never done this before. It never started this noise until they serviced the forks. So he says maybe the motor mount bolt is just not snug enough or something like that. He said to pull the fairing off, reposition the base of the slider and wrench it back down, and then see what it does.

Okay I got home about 10 minutes ago and just for shids and giggles checked the tightness on the sliders and they are down TITE! I get on the bike after snugging them down bike time, roll it forward, hit the brake and BOOM. Same popping sound as before and just as loud. So it looks like I am gonna have to pull the fairing and see what the heck is going on. I don't wanna ride until I find out whats causing this. The tech at the dealer said something is causing the frame to flex right there and then I hear it. So heres what I am confused about.....

1.) Has anyone else experienced anything like this with their sliders or just this type of issue in general?

2.) What do I do if I pull the fairings off, reposition the sliders, and it still doesn't fix this?

Okay so the areas that I know for sure are not an issue are these...

I just replaced the chain and sprockets so its not chain popping or sprocket noise at all. It is not an issue in the suspension or any of the bolts around that area or on the bike in general. And the bike makes the same noise whether the fairings are on or when its naked.

Please guys I have never had such a strange issue like this I need help bad. Like I said if this is a problem with frame flexing like they said I am not riding till I stop this. Any advice or hopefully someone that has had this happen before and will know what to do is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

try the lock washer between pucks and frame...see what happens...(it is weird.)

I don't have time to tear into the fairing removal tonight but I WILL check that tommorow and see. Just getting as many suggestions as I can right now.......any other takers to tackel this issue? Don't be shy gimmie all you can think of.

there is nothing you can do the will 'flex' that frame ....short of adding 500HP or crashing it.

pull the fairing and see if the noise remains....if not...then 'aligning' your fairings properly is the solution....be sure to loosen the nose piece as well.....because there's achance that when you had the fork seals replaced...they didn't get the nose on just right.

otherwise....something in the forks was not re-installed correctly.
measure for upper and lower tripple clamp tighness and alignment....

I had a similar popping problem. I dont have frame sliders. My horn was hitting something. It finally put a hole in my radiator.
It didnt start till I lowered it.

I have a mainly stock 05LE with just an exhaust system (full) on. It makes a loud pop when taking off at a traffic light if I roll the clutch (i.e. do not take off insanely fast). I do not know what it is but it appears to come from below the bike towards the front end.

I do not do wheelies (no big enough nutz) and do not abuse the bike at all, I am hesitant to think that it has anything to do with forks.

I do think it may have something to do with the steering bearing assembly.

Maybe you can look there. Any clunk in that area due to a loose bearing assembly will feel all over the frame including the sliders.

I am ordering a stand so I can lift the front end and check myself.

I forgot to add that if your bike makes the noise when applying the brakes, you might want to also check the caliper mounting assy.

i hate to even suggest this but given the symptoms?....feeling a popping through a frame slider and only on one side?...I gotta go with a cracked weld where the frame spar (on the same side as the popping slider) is welded to the steering head casting..as that's the only thing i can think of that would cause frame flex and pop..only on one side...at low speed slam the front brake on exercises...so my best guess?...check that weld....have you been doing any hard landing wheelies lately?...by chance?

If I were you I would remove the frame slider and ferrings and see what happens, if the sound continues you probally have internal issues.

Just a note to everybody for future reference. When you let somebody else work on your bike, and then you notice a new popping, grinding, hissing, etc noise, take it back pronto. Do not wait a couple thousand miles.

As in this paricular case,BB69 paid for a fork seal job, that work should not include a free "popping noise".

Not down on the shop or the tech(they may not be responsible),but listen, look, and inspect your ride carefully before even leaving the shops neighbourhood on pick-up day.

Everyone is excited to be riding again but...you have to overcome that excitement and be a responsible owner/consumer first.

Unfortunately BB69,yer just going to have to tear into it.
Start with the easiest, least expensive checks first.

Get a couple buddies to push it while you hold/watch the slider for starters. Then remove it. Then...blah blah blah.

Hope it works out,let us know. RSD.

Might try checking the rotors to see if they are moving when brakes applied? Like someone else said, ck head bearings, frt axle tourque, brake caliper mounting and tourque also look at brake pads and make sure the antirattle clips are in right. Good Luck. I am not sure I would ride to far until you find the problem.

I reread your post and I don't think I seen where you stated what brake application causes this, so let me add maybe your swing arm bearings are loose?

I don't think its the frame I checked it out today and didn't see any stress cracks or anything. I NEVER wheelie this bike. The noise stopped when I removed the slider so I have no idea what the issue is still.

Yeah I know Rubbah. I just though it was a lose bolt or something and was gonna service it when i got it home anyways so I was gonna get it myself. Turns out it wasn't. They will replace it or work on it again at no charge if I can't fix it as long as its related to that but it doesn't seem to be since its the slider.
