Make public the death photo or not?

It appears that in an effort to prevent inflaming our enemies and possibly further endangering any more Americans the govt has decided to not release the death photos of Osama Bin Laden. :(

How do y'all feel about that? Would releasing his photos further endanger our guys or are they already in enough danger wherever they may be? Would releasing it instantly send our enemies into an insatiable bloodlust?

I don't think so. Don't mean to offend anyone but our troops are gonna face fanatics who want to kill them no matter what happens. Releasing photos I dont think would result in anymore deaths than are already gonna happen.
I beleive the photo would show our enemies he is dead and gone and not to F with the USA!
This is one time when I think the worlds desire to move on and become more civil has allowed us to forget things like how Britain dealt with Pirates and eventually made it a non desirable profession. By hanging the bodies in cages at certain ports of call it let all know who thought about being one what their fate would be should they challenge the British. OBL's body should be swinging from a sturdy pole in the White House front yard! Let the birds peck his eyeballs out! Demonstrate a little barbarism and they our enemies may begin to fear us instead of laughing at our political correctness!

I want to see the photos!

Not asking for anyone to post gruesome pics or links here so please don't.
Just saying my tax dollars paid for the raid, every aspect, from the rounds in the guns the seals had to the Helos they used and everything in between.
I deserve to see for myself the pics.

I wanna see the vid from the seal team's cams. I wanna see when he was shot and then when they put the second bullet through his head.

In the least, I would like to see the pic be public.

I am sure Bin Laden's followers would love it if we released the photos too. But I have to agree with the president on this one. I think later on they will release the photos, but for now we need to keep the momentum going and hopefully we can regain a little respect from the rest of the world by showing restraint and not "stooping" to the terrorists level.

I want to see a picture of that top secret stealth helecoptor tail that they say might not have been known to the public yet

(The one that went down)

I know it is THEIR custom for a quick burial, but I thought it a bit odd that the body vanished so quickly...at sea...even though no country would want to claim it.

We go to war for ten years to catch this guy, we invade another country that was possibly linked to this guy, we kill innocent civilians in our march searching for this fella (such is the cost of war), but let us show restraint in PROVING to the world we really caught the man we were searching for.... ... .. .. .. ...... .... . . . .

I want proof.

Heck, in all honesty. Without absolute proof - I could see them twisting this as a fake manhunt used as an excuse to invade muslim terrority and enforce western ideals (such as the puppet gov't we tried/are trying to put in place in Iraq).

Hater's gon' hate - they'll find an excuse to hate us no matter what we do.

On a similar matter - I'm kinda mad that a brand new top-secret helicopter went down like that. That is a little frustrating no? Now reports are saying that Pakistan is basically going to sell it to China (new high tech fabric on that chopper) :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

So much for Obama having Pakistan in his back pocket

I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, I say show it to confirm and close the book on a chapter that took 10 years to write.

On the other hand, knowing and seeing are two different things. The graphic photo of Osama I think would become the new poster of hate for America and could cause an increase in hostilities.

I respect the decision of the president and the administration and feel they made this particular decision with the hopes of keeping the backlash to a minimum.

What difference does it make. It neither makes what the government is telling us any more believable or any less. Lamb believes about half of what is being reported, and isn't sure which half. A supposed pic of a supposed person makes lil difference to his life.

The part I don't like is him being buried at sea. Some consider it a great honor to have this done. I say we should have stuffed his body into a bomb and the next time they acted up over there, dropped that one on them. As for the pic, crap is still going to happen either way.

Yeah, that's the typical sort of weak-a55 bullcrap I expect from Democrats. They are too cowardly to challenge enemies directly. If Bush/Cheney had caught OBL, I have no doubt that it would have been dealt with very differently.

At a minimum, the WH press corps should have been flown to where OBL's body was and given time to get footage of it.

Sure show the pic ...they show Video when THEY cut off somebody's head

Good point. YouTube and other sources were allowed to broadcast our guys getting their heads cut off. But yet now we are scared to show pics of the one after he was shot who inspired many of those acts?

Agreed...without pics, it didn't happen.

+1

I think the enemy combatants have proven themselves unable to understand political correctness or taking the high road. It's a wasted effort and will only perpetuate his myth and likeness for years to come.

I wanna see them too but I must painfully say I agree with hold them. If burring a Koran gets 10 people across the world killed just imagine what OBL photos would do. I think it would push many people into early action or even worse get some new recruits. I want to see them but I think the Gov is doing right by holding them.....for a little while.

I personally hope he is still alive for the time being, and getting waterboarded somewhere. They can kill him later.

This is how I see it:
There are only two reasons to publish the pics, 1) inflame Jihadist and cause more Americans to die 2) prove to skeptics that is really happened.

1) Stooping to level of your enemy is never a good tactic. Eventually, the war would end up being about who is willing to be the most barbaric. What happens next, videos of women and children being raped and killed?

As far as the body being buried at sea, if this is all true, it was actually a smart thing to do. OBL still has a family and I assume that family still loves him and wants his body for proper burial. If we still had possession of his body, his family would be requesting it. Remember his family is wealthy and powerful. They would get the help of the Saudi and other governments, and possibly OPEC, to help them obtain the body. How do you think it would affect future diplomatic relationships with the Saudis if we refused to give them the body? How would it fair with the people in our country if we did give them the body? With the body gone we don’t have to face those request or questions.

Proof or not, if he is dead, his network will eventually know. Let them stew over it a while and try to figure it out. Not knowing will likely start a power struggle. Giving them instant proof would likely be a rallying mechanism.

2) No matter how many pics, videos and testimony by the actual people involved in the raid, there will always be naysayers. Look at 9/11, how many opinions are there about what happened. No amount of reports or independent studies will have everyone on the same page.

Do we really need to provide proof? Do we provide proof of where every dollar is being spent? People will always have doubt. There are some people who have proof and will still use the doubt of others to further a political agenda.

Different people want to see the pics for different reasons. Some will see them as proof, others want to reject them so they can bash the administration and others just want to see carnage. In the long run, will releasing the pics provide closure to everyone?
