In reference to your previous post: while the Muslim faith is beautiful conceptually, their track record of oppression (specifically of Women) is not very impressive.
I hate to tell you this but what you see as oppression is what they see as protection. If a woman runneth astray it would destabilize the family and lead to social alienation. No dowries and no good suitors for the other daughters. Fact of the matter is that the perspective you have is due to your exposure to biased domestic media on a large scale and only small scale if any peer to peer socially derived knowledge. The man is the ultimate, protector, provider when it comes to his position as a natural person on this earth as he is meant to be by the divine being if you buy into that. Therefore, the man will make the decisions and these primarily are made during times of duress when there are great forces of marauders and raiders roaming the land. If a woman were to be uncovered in that kind of environment, she would fall prey to lawlessness and savagery. I think you get the picture without the more explicit buzzwords. The assimilated cultures which joined the faith brought their specific regional nuances and the way they succeed was precisely the practice of such apparently oppressive things.
Now, let's analyze the western practices and oppressive actions against women.
1. Burning at the stake for witchcraft
2. Drowning in rivers to see if they are witches
3. hanging
4. scarring,
5. enslaving into the sex trade,
6. beatings with abandon,
7. forcing them to work in the war industry because our irresponsible leaders allowed war to even happen with diplomacy or foresight,
8. abandonment into a life of single motherhood,
Now you see what they prevent by practicing a bit of brutality for the greater good. And polygamy is written into the faith with the origin being to take in a widow in order to provide for her and her children's needs while giving them an equal status in your home to your wife. Then, if you meet the criteria, you may take her as your wife as well.
In truth all religions are wonderful until man begins to interpret them. Religion is the political exploitation of spirituality. The minute ones spiritual perspective becomes a way of collecting followers (a religion) it becomes a source of earthly power which is of course, absolutely corrupting. Government is a way of orienting groups of people here on earth. Religion is a way of orienting one's self in the universe. Until we understand that distinction, there will never be peace.
This is true and guess what, it can be focused as a microscope onto the most oppressive religion on earth. The religion that motivates a country through political mass to commit atrocities around the world. That country is the one you and I call home.
In reference to the proceeding post: Genghis Kahn was a ***** cat compared to the scale on which our leaders kill (Obama included). History is painted from the perspective of the winners.
I admire his reproductive prowess. I saw a figure once that said that up to 33% of the population of Europe has some genetic material that came from Genghis Khan.
