Meet my new guy!! Sulcata Tortoise

Cool pet! In the first pic it looks like he's got some attitude as well.

He was actually just reaching up for food My son was holding something over his head, and the bad camera shot hides it pretty well, but he's also got a big piece of greenery on the side of his head from eating in that shot He loves to eat and will eat from your hands, follow you around if you have food to lead him...

That is cool! I had a couple turtles many years ago, then I remember wanting one again but thought you couldn`t buy them due to disease or something.
You make it sound as if your new guy will grow rapidly??? I would have guesed the opposite because they live so long..no?

No, he's a slow grower. I'm thinking I have a decade or so of him being small enough to keep inside, then he'll have to be an outdoor tortoise. I kind of doubt I can housebreak him, and when he's over 50 lbs, well, taking him outside might be problematic His lifespan is 100 years, give or take...my kids know this, and so will their kids

My friend left his in the back yard an they stole it, hope you have better luck

I live in a really quiet town...have acreage...people still leave their homes unlocked, keys-in-the-cars-kinda-place, neighbors look out for one another...I'm not worried about anyone stealing him...
