Michelin Pilot Pure Review ("Pure Joy" 2)

A week ago Friday (21MAY10), I put a set of Pilot Pure 190/50 (rear) and 120/70 (front) on my Gen2, Wasabi.

As impressed with them as I was when I put them on the Gen1, I was sure I was going to love them.

The work order says I had 66,190 miles on her (the Gen2) when I had them installed.

I have in the last nine days put 1,000 miles on them. Really, by itself, no big whoop.

The only reason I point this out is to let you know that I'm out there actually 'using' these tires.

With the wider stripes of softer compound flanking the harder center-strip, the pilot finds the 'grippy' part far sooner on the Pure than on other Michelin tires...specifically, the 2CT and the Road2's; both of which I also love, and have absolutely NO PROBLEM having installed and going out for a good canyon romp.

In my initial review "Pure Joy," I mentioned that I'd never had as much confidence in a street tire as I had in them, and that absolutely holds true with these.

I suspect that I'll burn through the 2nd set far faster than the 1st, as I won't be logging many more miles on the Gen1 this year; at least, I don't plan to.

Anyway...once again, I can highly recommend these tires for serious street/canyon/mountain motorcycling enthusiasts...and they seem to be particularly 'busa-friendly.

I know many of you are interested in the tread-wear longevity, so as soon as I need to replace them, I'll give you an update.

I know you've seen the attached pictures before, but they show the tire after about 600 miles wear.

Ride safe; and enjoy!!! :beerchug:

I have a set of Pilot Powers (120/70 & 190/55) that I'm going to use next. Probably try a set of the Power Pures after those are gone.

Glad you guys are liking the Pures....i actually thought about a set of them when i had a fresh set of Q2's installed and from what i'm hearing from the buzz on the street is...they are well liked and decriptions of their performance to me sounds like the Q2's twin brother..loved for all the same reasons..and not to thread jack but just compare?...here's my 1st Q2 @ 1600 miles...

Hey, Bill...what kind of riding are you generally doing? I hear good things about the Q2's as well.

hmmm..how do i answer that question?...well?..i'd say i a solid 8, possibly 9 on the 10 scale of aggressive street riding..90-95% of the time...gotta watch my toes in the corners even with cyclecat rearsets kinda aggressive..the ther 5-10%?...sunday mornin jaunts with he crazy crew...waaaay out west....no-mans-land...no homes...no driveways...just wide open roads...lotsa highspeed sweepers kinda action..with a dash of low speed tech stuff...lil psuedo tracks in unbuilt housing development projects where they built the roads but abandoned the project.

sorta riding...love to get to the mountains every now and then as time/$ permits.

What are those things on the sides of the tire that make it look like a cactus?

it's south florida dude...and that tire at the time only had 1600 on it...it was ground side too side by the time i had 2600 on it though...wore the directional arrows off the sides by 3600..but alas?...like i said..it's south florida..i can only get over so far slicing lit intersections..the closest things we have to curves. LOL

oh and ps:...those lil titties were on the very edge..actually more sidewall oriented than tire surface...i know lotsa guy who take razors to'em..but i ain't like that...i get'em off the old fashioned way. LOL

Pure's are working well for me too! Not as great as the standard powers in the rain but way more confident. Can't wait to try a TD on them!

Are Pures the "improved" version of the PP2CT's ? They're a little pricey compered to the Q2's aren't they ?

I just want to try the Pures or 2CT's, and Diablos, but the Q2's are next. I just need 2 other bikes, yeah, yeah that's what I need !!

Cool, was just going to ask if anyone had these. I'm going to install them when needed.

FWIW - Sport Rider did an article on these tires recently, and they seemed to like them pretty well also.

I was thinking the same Kenny.
Like PP2CT's on steroids! I am getting a set before the Stampede and will give you my humble assessment.
Take care my friend.:beerchug:

I thought I'd give my review on this tire. I have Pilot Pure in the front and CT2's in the back. In the rain I have gone as fast as 80mph with no slipping, taking turns it didn't slip at all (knee dragging), and as far as mileage goes. I have 10,400 miles on both tire. The front is almost done but the rear looks like it has another 500-1000 miles left in it. I drive my bike 7 days a week, can't beat this mileage. I will be purchasing a set of CT2's later this month.
