More problems!

Originals were the external 2000 pump and 99 tank. Went to 2001 internal pump setup on the last re-paint/rebuild.

I don't remember the details but the manual describes how to check the fuel pressure and what tool to use.

Hmmmm... taking off the fuel tank... sure drains slow... I think I'll just remove it and turn it upside down.... removing the fuel pump... what's that clunking sound? Something looks like it's missing here...

Ah, let me find my flashlight....

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm......

Yeah, I think this might explain a few things.

So, the question I have is... how did this get loose in the first place? And how can ensure it doesn't come lose ever again?

my guess is a new pump is going to be the order... maybe smitherscustoms has some advice for you..

IME anytime something like this falls apart, it is usually a bad sign...

could be someone is familiar with this failure but I am not... (tagging along now)

The white clip is very loose when I put it on the pump. Looks like it popped off with enough vibration and the regulator finally worked its way out.

OK, I just heated up and reformed the clip. Snaps tight now and I'll use nylon straps for backup. Putting it back together now....

In the manaul I recall seeing it explaining how to check the psi by using a measuring cup and timing how long it take to fill to a certain point if you don't have a psi gauge.

In 1983 I was burned 33% 3rd degree (arms mostly) and spent 38 days in a burn unit and another 18 months in pressure bandages... I can empathize with the pain, nothing like it in the world... get some silvadene from the drugstore..it goes on pretty thick and keeps the air off the burn (does pretty good at killing pain)

Yeah, this really hurts. Got it coated with neosporin after painfully spraying H2O2. See if I can get the other stuff in the AM.

But hey, I got the bike running again. So, I'm happy.
