Ok, I don't know about you guys, but I thought the Janet Jackson thing was terrible.  What were these guys thinking?  I didn't see it live, I heard about it later.  I thought, are you kidding me?  I don't want to see that during a half time show!  Wrong place, wrong time.  I hope heads really DO roll on this one.

And another thing...the commercials...The Bud commercial with the flatulent horse was the most crass, distasteful thing I've ever seen on TV, (except for Brittany kissing Madonna).  Who are these people that they think we need to see this stuff.  Turn the channel?  BS!!  I don't want to see that on network TV, that's why there's cable!  It seems like it's all for "shock value", they have to do something to make the news, or make people talk about it. And there's plenty of mindless idiots around who are taken in by all this.
I for one am tired of it.  The FCC needs to clamp down on the sex and bad language on TV and radio.  You want shock value? stick a knife in the toaster or get cable TV.  I don't want to see this crap during the Super Bowl.

OK, Firstly Janet's Hootie Hoo is misplaced at Half time, don't get me wrong.  BUT WTF?  It's a female breast, big deal, here's a real option I wasn't watching half time because halftime shows generally suck.  But it's still just a breast,  America has gotten itself so wrapped up bassackwards on this it's embarassing.  We'll show the bloodiest most gruesome stuff on network TV, blood and guts, shootouts, beatings, on and on.  Nobody cries foul...  But OMG there is a naked breast on TV and it's the end of the world?  They are going to spend taxpayer dollars to investigate?  This is stupid, levy a fine and lets move on.
The US has this twisted puritanical noose arounds it's thoughts that says violence OK, Nudity BAD...  Tell you what though I would a lot rather have my little boy or girl be expossed to 20K breasts and Butts by the time they are 15 than the same number of brutal images...  You want to solve some of the problems here, show more beautiful images on TV, more Breasts, more butts, hell throw a wang in there once in awhile, it would be a hell of a lot less harmful than the garbage are youth get spoon fed now.  As a side effect, maybe American men would grow up with a little less of an obsession with scantily clad or nekid women, maybe our attitudes towards women would improve in general when they become less of an object of lust.
Europe may not be able to teach us a whole lot about some things, but when it comes to this sort of twisted priority they can teach us much.

Yeah Big Surprise, imagine REV being Pro-Hootie Hoo's!!!

OK The BUDWISER Farting horse was dumb...But sorta funny...  "Whoa rocket sled"  come on, I'll it was stupid, but offensive?  Dude, it's a thirty second commercial, and guess what the remote is allways under your control, vote with it!

You want stupid commercials that are gross?  WTF is quiznos thinking with that dead hamster commercial...or whatever the hell, I found it nasty.  Here's what happens, I will not eat at quiznos until it is off the air, thats how I deal with it, Stupid Ass Chili's commercials, same deal, I don't like the message, I find their commercials insulting to the intelligence, so...I don't eat there!  SO, Bud Offended you don't drink their crappy beer, unhappy with the sight of a breast on TV?  Change the channel, Was it out of place at a halftime show?  Yes, certainly...but would I rather have my kids see that than a downtown shooting on the news or some stupid ass CSI episode?  Absolutely!!!!

And remember, the shock value thing has put Janet in the Headlines, she will certainly be hitting the talkshow circuit etc, etc... So SHE WINS!!!! She is playing the public like a fiddle and everyone is following right along their little preprogrammed trail... If a female breast is the most traumatic thing that happens in your day then we are all in good shape!!!

(GETS OFF SOAPBOX...Slides it back on over)

OH PS, THE FCC needs to be disbanded, and these self appointed puritanical watch dogs need to be shut down... IMHO...There is NO FCC here...and it is kept clean by choice and by request... it's not that hard... lets think for ourselves and stop having our information spoon fed to us... I hate to sound conspiritorial, but the truths are out there, but FCC controlled, corporate owned, big business broadcasting will never host the truth.... Besides, NBC, or whatever the hell channel the SuperBowl was on is loving Janet for her "accident" bet on it.

The Janet Jackson thing is so overblown...most didn't even see what happened. Hell, my husband and I actually rewinded TiVo to see if we'd indeed seen what we thought we saw, but want to know something? I'd forgotten all about the half-time show by the end of the game, only to wake up to Fox News finding her boob more intriguing than the war in Iraq!

For the record, let's take a nice long look at each and every cheerleader standing on the sidelines, plastered on the huge big screens of the stadium for all to ogle...and I'm guessing we've already forgotten about the myriad of beer commercials using blatant sex to sell everything from beer (hello, girls fighting in barely there clothing in a fountain...tastes great...less filling) to hot wings...hell, I'm not a fan, but I've seen enough of the day time soaps to know a hell of a lot of sex is selling those shows as well...all on network TV...

Do I agree with all of it? No...but, to take something as silly as the half-time show and blow it in to a bigger-than-life incident forever scarring humanity is kind of stupid...it was a boob...with a pastie...I've seen worse on day time television on Jerry Springer!

The commercials were amusing...I missed the now infamous gaseous horse commercial...I liked the Chevy commercials, namely the kids with soap in their mouths for saying "holy sh*t" and the one with the 4 tall guys getting in a tiny Chevy...all in all, the Super Bowl was worth watching...good game, amusing commercials, and who cares about the half-time show?

Morality... It was considered the fall of the Roman Empire... I am with Owen on this. However, Rev & VA have a point too in that I think the media jumped all over it blowing out and up so they become part of the problem.

This should be a family show! I left the room for a board game and didnt see the 1/2 time displays til the next day. Whats that stuff got to do with football anyway! In adition to the boob shot I am sick of dirty dancing etc. Sheez just a few years ago you couldnt show half the stuff they do now on tv. It's estimated that an average teenager has seen 10,000 murders on tv by the time they graduate and dont tell me todays video games have nuthin to do with the way many kids are more violent! It happens very slow so we dont get soooo outraged at once and each year they show a little more then a little more...

Free speech and no restrictions are great in certain venues but with absolutely no laws and no restrictions of any kind you have ANARCHY!

This is cracking me up! I can't believe that we all are forgetting what makes this country tick. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Don't you know how much money the Bowl brings in...how much the comercials cost?

You don't have to fine networks, you don't have to legislate this stuff. If you don't like it, direct your money elsewhere. Make it clear that you will not support the Super Bowl or the sponsors of the Super Bowl as a result of showing material you don't want to see. Change the channel. Don't buy Bud, etc. If the people who didn't appreciate the stunt would boycott the network and all those who had commercials during the Super Bowl for 1-month...just one month, you would see a church service next year. And the threat of similar actions would greatly influence future programming decisions of all networks.

The economic viewpoint eliminates the need to debate morality. No one has to be right or wrong. It becomes a question of prefferences, and I personally would rather not have such things on programs that my 12 and 9 year olds just might be watching. Our spending habits will dictate what is shown. If you like it, support it. If not, make an economic statement.

Otherwise, the debate will just go on endlessly. And like Cache said...perhaps that is what they wanted. After all, when was the last time Janet had a hit song? How else do you get media coverage?

Hmmmmm.. Most civilizations have fallen within 100 years of accepting homosexuality as an acceptable life style (not slamming the life style, I don’t agree with it but people can do what they wish, just stating a fact)

I missed her breast.. not that I missed much, but I was talking to my father in law when it happened..

My 10 year old son is the one who saw it and said something about it. and I said no way, then my 11 year old said he saw it also, then my 6 year old.

Yeah a breast is a breast. I am 41 years old, there isn’t a breast out there that is going to impress me.

However I remember what I was like when I was pre-teen, always the last one out of the classroom, couldn’t walk right of a stiff wind came up.

It is tough enough going through puberty by itself, then add in peer pressure. there is not much of a deterrent anymore for preventing adolescents from engaging in sex.

Do I like sex? HELL YEAH!! Is it normal? HELL YEAH!! Do I want my 12 year old boy getting some girl pregnant and being a father at 13? HELL NO, do I want any of my sons to get a sexually transmitted disease, one they might not be able to get rid of? HELL NO.

The half time show sucked. If you want to see some guy spanking a girls a$$, go to a strip club and pay for it or go to Las Vegas and pay for it. Or at least do it in a manner that everyone is expecting it.

Don’t do it where my hormone driven son can go “oohhh look!! titties!!!!
The half time show was way to erotic for general population. When my boys get 18, they can do what they want, but until then it is MY JOB to ensure I try to instill in them a good sense of morality and respect for women.

That half time show was lacking both.. If I had no kids would it have bothered me? No way, I am probably as perverted and deviant as the next person. I keep it in check and in my pants however for the sake of my sons.

Just my 50 cents..

And oh yeah, the comercials sucked this year too...

I sympathize with parents who want to protect their children from images they dissaprove of. Many probably feel they should be able to sit with their kids and watch a sports event without worrying about nudity or morally questionable material.

Yes, there is far worse out there on TV than Janet Jackson's breast. And parents can prevent their kids from watching the news (not that they'd want to) or R rated movies or MTV. But if such material invades sports programming, is NFL football supposed to be off-limits to the little ones too? Frustrating.

On the other hand. Sports programming and advertising and sports entertainment is aimed at a different target audience than children. And its going to stay that way. So long as those methods continue to sell products, garner attention, and provide advertising revenue.

Thinker62 is right. Vote with your pocketbook. Because raising a fuss about morality won't change anything. In this case there is no such thing as bad press because attention equals name recognition.

I don't know the first thing about raising kids. So I'm not about to "suggest" that American's need to do it differently. But I did have a chance to spend some time in Europe recently and there is a lot more nudity in TV advertising there. Some might suggest this is an indication that Europeans have lower morals than American's. I don't know about that. But I can say that I didn't see barbaric gangs roaming the streets raping and pillaging. Or see signs of impending societal collapse. If anything, the streets seemed safer than ours and the people more considerate.

I'm not suggesting that eyebrow raising commercials make Europe better than the USA. I'm just saying that they don't make Europe worse. Put another way, I see no clear correlation between nudity in advertising and crime in a society.

(Big O thanks Rev and Hawaii for their comments and mounts the box again, checks his notes)

Just a breast? What's next? Is this leading to learning respect for women? I didn't like that Justin reached over and exposed it, he said, I'll have you naked before this song is over? Great respect for women.

I agree there's way too much violence on TV. And I DO vote with my remote. I don't watch network television except for the local weather. Because it's crap in my opinion. Hence, I missed the Chili's and the Quizno's commercials all together.

Disband the FCC, and let the public think for themselves? Oh my gosh, the same people who watch Survivor, CSI(sorryRaider), and Dr Phil? No way!

Hawaii hits the nail square on the head about losing morality. We're losing more and more each year. I just think it's time to rein in on the rules. The FCC will only act if there's enough people complaining. I tried to contact them yesterday but the server is busy, hmmm, wonder why.

Basically I'm saying that "they're" pushing the envelope too far, it's time to pull back and enforce the current rules. I'm crying FOUL!,BOOOO!, don't put that on TV!

Where to draw the line...hmmmm. The problem is that we would all answer this question differently, and our parents would answer it even more differently, and someday our kids will really answer it differently.

I will never try too impose my rules on others, but I might join in on a CBS (I hope CBS is the right station) boycott for a month. Hit them where it hurts! Or do like Big O says, call the FCC and complain. It might do some good, but it might not. But I am pretty confident that if a list of Super Bowl advertisers were circulated along with a petition and request to boycott them for their support of this incident, HEADS WOULD ROLL! The publicity might be worth a $100,000 fine, but start messing with a networks life-blood, and you WILL see results.

"but start messing with a networks life-blood, and you WILL see results."

Ain't that the truth! Sombody ought to put together a list of advertisers and make that petition. Money threats would mean something to the powers that be.
