I've got no right to get offended. I am a jackass, prone to getting worked up and pissy. So no harm done.

the stunt did just what they wanted. to get all you jackasses jacked up and pissy. now they are the most talked about in the world. good job guys. you are helping their cause.

Cache - You are right, the stunt was done for publicity, what else would it have been done for. And you are right, it is one of the biggest things in the news.

However there is a good publicity and bad publicity and while yes I am talking about it like everyone else. I now have a lower opinion of Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake.

My first thoughts were that all it does to shows it Janet Jackson is a freak lke her brother. And Justin Timberlake has no class nor respect for women or respect for the viewing audience.

And because of this I am less likely to want to expend any money in anyway that would benefit Timberlake, Janet Jackson, MTV or CBS.

So for me, Yeah it was publicity, but bad publicity. I defiantly think less of them both for this. And by the public reaction I am guessing a lot of people feel the same way.

There was one person that was neutral at my work about this, while the rest thought it was a bad thing. So while yes, every jackass in the world might be talking about it, I don’t think it is in a way that will beneficial to either ones career.

And I don’t think Janet Jackson's stunt and exhibition on stage will in anyway be of help to her brother.

Funny. I haven't watched TV for so long, I just ASSUMED that was the regularly accepted decedence for today's average viewer. I thought it was lame, rediculous, and obscene.... but since society doesn't seem to give a $#!t, it will just keep getting worse. All I can do it turn it off and leave it off. More riding time that way!
smile.gif
I am glad to see people standing up for decency, and I hope many people get sued for breaking laws that are in place now.... I don't care about me, but children were and do watch, broadcast TV should be a safe zone.

Shock is not a substitue for real talent.

Morality... It was considered the fall of the Roman Empire... I am with Owen on this. However, Rev & VA have a point too in that I think the media jumped all over it blowing out and up so they become part of the problem.
mad.gif

This should be a family show! I left the room for a board game and didnt see the 1/2 time displays til the next day. Whats that stuff got to do with football anyway! In adition to the boob shot I am sick of dirty dancing etc. Sheez just a few years ago you couldnt show half the stuff they do now on tv. It's estimated that an average teenager has seen 10,000 murders on tv by the time they graduate and dont tell me todays video games have nuthin to do with the way many kids are more violent! It happens very slow so we dont get soooo outraged at once and each year they show a little more then a little more...

Free speech and no restrictions are great in certain venues but with absolutely no laws and no restrictions of any kind you have ANARCHY!

Well I don’t Know about Morality, or lack of Morality being responsible for the fall of the Roman Empire. If you think about it the early Roman Empire was kicking ass and taking names. It wasn't until after their claimed embrace of Christianity as apposed to their "Evil Pagan Ways" that things rapidly went into the crapper.

Though to be honest I feel the two faced, false morality imposed by a supposed majority is really the problem here. Who decided that the naked female form is Evil, bad, and capable of Corrupting the minds and hearts of the masses? What in the heck is so bad about a naked woman? What power does that image have to corrupt the supposed innocents of the nation? It's this public espousing of the evils of the female form that cracks me up... Nearly every religious leader in the country has been caught, with their secretary, their daughter’s friends, their mistress or a freaking choir boy...

All the while selling us this Moral Bill of Goods that they themselves cannot adhere to because it's a bunch of crap. Old Men in Dusty offices sitting around trying to think up ways to retain their money and power are the reason for this insane duality. It has little to do with any real moral fiber, or Christian ethic... SURE AS HELL has nothing to do with Woman’s rights or equality... These are the same folks who still think Women need to be in the Kitchen...

What is immoral about nudity? Where is the harm? What possible damage can it do? If we weren't all taught to be ashamed and embarrased of our naked bodies, the sight of a bit of flesh here or there would be a non-issue... it certainly has little to do with "Moral Values".

No I am not talking about porn either, I can see some problems there. But in just nudity where is the harm? The only reason a young boy or girl knows something is wrong is because of the way their parents FREAK OUT when there is a publicity stunt, or a wave peels off a Bikini Top. If parents didn't sweat it or teach their kids the "SHAME" of their own bodies guess what, it's a non-issue... I am also not a big advocate of Naturalism or Nudists.... I still cannot figure out a good way to carry my wallet...

What kills me is all of this talk about the horrors of naked flesh come right out of the one side of a persons head, and yet out of the other, when they think nobody is looking they are right out there on the web looking... Or eyeballing the young gals at the Mall, Sneaking peaks when they can. This type of repression is why we have priests by the dozens fondling little boys.

The worst letches I have ever seen have been the old 50-60 somethings, living a lie of a life, with the cronish wife they never had the balls to stand up to. You can see the twistedness in the vehemence with which they espouse the evils and wrongs of the female form... They yell the loudest so as to give themselves something to hide behind, so they can try to creep around behind their own facade of Bullshit...

Don't buy into it, don't believe it....

NOW, Having said all that, I do need to say that I am not aiming this at ANYONE ON THIS BOARD, oh and Yeah, Super Bowl is not the time and place for Hootie Hoo's...

Though it could be and we need to work on that, I have the New Cheerleader outfits already picked out!!!!

(GETS OFF SOAPBOX, TRIES TO LIGHT IT ON FIRE... FAILS…GOES AND HAS LUNCH INSTEAD)

(REACHES DOWN, PULLS REV UP FROM THE DEEP END, BRUSHES HIM OFF, GRABS SOAP BOX AND STANDS ON IT)

Soooo uhh Revlis.... what are you really trying to say?

Ok, lets bring this into the simplest description I can think of....

Winter is easy for me.. women are all bundled up in lots and lots of clothes.. I can walk by a woman and acknowledge she has a pretty face or something....

Summer time is hell (I am married, trying to stay faithful and all that) In the summer time when women are wearing near to nothing I take notice quicker, and a women with a hot body is more noticeable and kind of stirs my inner libido you might say.

Is the woman's fault? Or is it the fault of any women that dresses skimpy? No it is my own weakness, I will not blame my own weakness on someone else.

And you are probably right, if we all walked around with no clothes on at all, I am sure we would all become desensitized to it and nudity would be no big deal.

But being that we don’t all walk around like that, when I see a good looking woman half neked or totally neked or whatever it can cause me to possible have a certain amount of desire. Fortunately as I get older it seems to get a little better. I figure by the time I am 130 years old I will have this problem under control.

And you are totally right about closet perverts. Catholic priests usually have a big problem because if I am correct, they are not allowed to marry. That in lies the problem

Celibacy is a gift, not something you can force yourself to be. If you have the gift of celibacy then great, if you have no desire for sex and by all means, be a priest.

But if you don’t have the gift of celibacy and you do desire women and lust burns in your heart it is better to marry than your soul burn in hell for eternity (kind of a quote from the bible).

That is the problem, you have all these men that are TRYING to be godly men and forcing themselves to be celibate, but if you are not that way naturally, all that happens is the desire for sex burns in your heart hotter and hotter until it drives you crazy.

Anyway, not trying to get into a religious tangent. But everything you said is correct.. pretty much 100% correct, don’t disagree with you one bit. It just proves one thing, we are flesh, we have desires and we are sinners at heart.

So now you have two choices.. If you don’t believe in God at call… cool, go on about your life and keep calling Christians hypocritical and keep slamming Christians, because looking at a Christian from a flesh point of view us Christians are jacked up, that is why you shouldn’t look at us. Look at God instead. I never claimed to be perfect, so don’t accuse me of not being perfect. I know I am not. I am no better than anyone else..

And to be honest, I profess to be a Christian and I know people that are not Christians and don’t believe in God and probably are nicer, more compassionate and better people than I am.. Kind of embarrassing but that is where the grace of God comes in. I don’t have to be perfect.

… If however you do believe in God even one small bit, you better accept Jesus Christ as your savior because that is the ONLY way you are getting into heaven.

Ok, with that Said, Rev lets go have a beer and get drunk Muah ha ha..

Again, everything you said is correct. Wont disagree with a word of it

Ok, stepping off soap box… next…

Hmmmmm.. Most civilizations have fallen within 100 years of accepting homosexuality as an acceptable life style (not slamming the life style, I don’t agree with it but people can do what they wish, just stating a fact)
Don't confuse fact with someone else's misguided opinion. If you can show it as fact (you won't be able to) I'll give you my 'Busa.

If you are indeed correct there are a few major european nations that will be crumbling to the ground soon.

You know, I am so embarrassed that this is the MAIN topic of discussion on TV, on the web, everywhere you go, all I hear about is Janet Jackson...do you know that the most searched and downloaded item in the history of the Internet is that split second boob shot from the half-time show?  At least that's what Fox News was reporting this morning in between some political talks because there was a Primary election last night, in case you missed it!
smile.gif

I have kids...they're young, but I can tell you that my 3 year old son doesn't miss a chance to see a gal in a bikini or comment if he ever does happen to see a boob...it's up to me to try and shield him from what I can, and if he sees something I didn't want him to see, it's also my job to explain what he saw and move on with life...I'm really tired of hearing how so many parents blame TV and radio, the CDs they buy and the Internet for the corruption their children are exposed to...parenting is not easy, and things like this half-time show don't make it easier, but we all sat in front of the TV and saw thousands killed in terrorist attacks, people jumping from burning buildings to their certain death, we all sat and watched as the shuttle Columbia disintegrated in our atmosphere...we've seen a guy commit suicide during rush hour traffic, we've seen sheets covering bodies on sidewalks...that's just the daily news and part of life.  It's on the networks...It's up to parents to teach kids what they're seeing and why if they're exposed to these types of things...I can't blame everyone on the other side for airing it or playing it on the radio when I'm the one watching or listening to it...and I can't believe how up-in-arms so many are over something that's seen by every kid in America on MTV!

Equally aggravating is that the NFL organization is trying to distance themselves so far from what happened, yet they have a less than stellar track record with players in controversy...from domestic abusers to murderers...from drug users to drunk drivers...and now all of the sudden the NFL is offended?  CBS is offended?  They don't use sex to sell the game?  CBS doesn't air a single commercial showing cleavage to sell a product?  The NFL doesn't have guys that have graced their locker rooms and fields that did things most would find incredibly offensive and morally wrong?  And we don't know about it from the news?  Come on...seems that there's a whole lot more than just the half-time show that needs to be cleaned up if we're all going to make a big deal about this...

...this is so overblown at this point, it's a complete joke to me...perhaps I'm one of those that are numb to what's on TV and in my face day-after-day?  I might be, but I can put life in perspective and see what's truly newsworthy vs what's just ridiculous to even give a second thought, yet here I am, thinking about it just like everyone else!
mad.gif

VaBusa - your right.. there is too much sex violence etc.. However I think what the big deal is here (at least for me and I think this is what it boils down to) is you have the option to not allow your kids to watch the news, you have the option to not let your kids watch this show or that show. And if I had known Janet Jackson was going to show her breast on public TV or that Just Timberlake was going to grind his pelvis into her but, I would have chose to not watch the superbowl, or at least turned it off during the half time show.

Unfortunately during most of the superbowl, my family was watching it and I was installing a shower door in the bathroom and a bathroom fan, so I was in and out of the room, I didn’t think I would have to monitor the superbowl for sexual content

I am not offended that she bared her breast, I am not offended that there were grinding each other on national T.V.

That’s our society.. What I am bothered by is that it snuck up on me. I didn’t have a chance or the option to turn my set off.

If they would have put a disclaimer up first for warning, then I would have either not watched it, or I would have taped it, and not let my kids watch it and let them watch the tape after I had a chance to view it. Just like I do with most movies. I usually screen stuff before letting my kids watch it.

That is all I am upset about, I don’t give a crap if they stripped naked and had raunchy sex on stage on front of millions, that is their decision, but give me a warning so I can make a choice on if I want me kids to watch it or not..

That’s all I am saying.. give me a disclaimer next time, I will be fine with whatever happens then. I would have been warned.

(STRAIGHTENS TIE, STEPS UP TO THE BOX)

Believe me when I say this Thrasher, it really isn't Christianity I have a problem with, it really isn't Christians in general I have a problem with.  My problem lies in the manner in which Organized Christianity is used as a tool of control, a way to garner votes, a way to write laws, a way to scare the masses into church for fear of eternal damnation, all to secure power, and money.  "Give the church money, think the way we tell you, act the way we tell you or...your going to burn."  The Large organized Christian sects have gotten lost, corrupted by power, greed, and pride.  It's no longer about worshiping the Lord, it's not about helping others, it's become a self serving financial and political machine.  All you have to do to see just haw far from goodness these organizations have become is to visit a Catholic Church, or look at pictures from Vatican City, Gold Statues everywhere, Billions of dollars worth of Art, and wealth horded and plundered from around the world...   It stinks of Idololatry, of Greed, of self rightousness...  Grrrr, If Christ came back tomorrow, his first act I think would be to slap the taste out of the Pope's mouth and raze the whole place as an affront.

Do I consider myself a Christian?  Well Yeah, oddly enough I think I do.  But at the same time, do I march around espousing my goodness?  Uh, no...  Do I put all my faith in the Bible as it exists today?  Absolutely not, I feel that document has been run over and re-written to suite the whims of man too many times over the centuries.  As you read the Bible you can allmost see and feel the parts that ring true and real, but at the same time you can feel the wrongness and how out of place some of the passages are, you can tell that the tone, or the message some how no longer clicks...

I pray to God, I have felt him in my life, a few times in ways that defy logic.  So please do not get the idea that I hold all Christians in contempt, it's the organizations behind them I find offensive.  I don't mean to be slamming all Christians, just the ones who stand in front of us as supposed leaders, and make decisions that effect the Country and it's people based on falsehoods, and lies.  Remember you do not have to go to church on Sundays, and carry a bible around thumping it everyday to be a good Christian, it's what is truly in your heart and mind that matter.

Does this mean I am better than anyone else?  No, I do feel however that by keeping my mind open to the world around me, and really looking hard at what I see and really hearing what is being said, that maybe I pick up on things others might miss.  Hell, I am just as big a schmuck as anyone else out there, doing what I can do to make the world around me a little less of a drag when I can.  A smile here, a pat on the back there, a kind word, (Yeah I know Hard to believe) a handshake, a wave...and lord knows I try and fail on a daily basis...patience...man that one is a beyotch.

Now with the woman thing I can understand what your saying, all that skin running around can be a bit distracting, but I believe that it is only distracting because of the stigma around it impossed on a lot of us because of our upbringing.

If we hadn't been brought up with this shame surrounding our own bodies, exposed skin in just a few generations would be no big deal...

Heck I am allowed to look at other women,  my wife points em' out to me.  I consider all beauty eye candy, like a (Bear with me) beautiful sunset, a flower, the mountains, or a bird in flight.  OK sounds kinda hokey I know, but really isn't a beautiful women also one of gods creations, just like anything else in nature?  I'd be lying my ass off if I said that sometimes I will even entertain an impure thought or two upon sighting a serious hottie, but I just move on, realizing I am a Male of the species and thats the way it works, Heck that is the way it's supposed to work!  WEAKNESS?
rock.gif
Where the hell do you get weakness?  It's nature man, now we as humans have the ability to control our feelings so at least we don't have to run out and butt heads to get the ladies, but it's still human and natural, there should not be any bad feelings about it...  We're hard wired that way, anyone who says different is Totaly and Completely full of SH*^!!!  The trick is not acting on those feelings, and being in control of your actions, but there should be NO guilt or feelings of impurity because of those feelings.  Without them the human race would have never made it!

(Steps off of that Soapbox before lightening strikes)

Thats a DAMN FINE IDEA... Remove the teet of ignorance from your house, suddenly you start having all these thoughts...that are your own, you start talking to your wife again...and maybe dinner is even eaten at the table...

I think this is a helluva good idea... Well I do now that Simpsons are out on DVD..

Point taken...I understand how parents were caught off guard by this particular act, but in the big wheel of life, what happened in that split second on network television isn't going to change the world...it won't change what your kids know or don't know...it won't make them bad people for seeing it, and it won't make the morality of an entire nation go down in flames...

I find it very amusing that there's so much over a partially nude breast being exposed on network TV, yet very little controversy over a naked man standing in the middle of the field?  Surely that would be more detrimental than anything the half-time show had to offer?  Sure, CBS did what they could to keep graphics over the screen while they got the guy off of the field, but there were thousands of spectators watching...probably an entire minute or more of being exposed to a naked man unexpectedly while downing your Coke and eating your hot dog...I don't think they're all heading to therapy because of it...

It's just my opinion, but what happened isn't a big deal at all...the media is making it much more than they need to, and we're all hopping on the band wagon to argue points...as far as letting or not letting your kids watch the news?  I remember a time when seeing anything graphic was a big no-no on network TV; when did that go out of the window?  Commercials used to not be racey, and now my kids and husband are glued to the TV as an entire bikini team sells them something...it's the way media has pushed the envelope in the name of free speech, freedom of information, etc that puts us where we are right now...where we go from here?  Who knows?  And I know that's the problem...

My point wasn't to defend what Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake did on network TV.  My point was simply to say that there has been far worse in your kids' faces...there will be far worse via every media they come in contact with and their peer groups...this just wasn't something to get so over blown that we're all even discussing it like we are...

(LOOKING FOR SOAP BOX BUT ALL I SEE IS A BURNT SMOLDERING PILE OF WOOD KINDLING)

Rev - I totally agree with you, as a "Christian" which is the best description I guess for what I am. I totally acknowledge there has been way to much evil done in the name of God. And most of the time when there has been "Holy" wars it was mainly for greed over land and riches.

Heck the crusades!!! No wonder why a lot of Muslims are pissed at Christians… Correct me if I am wrong but I think the Crusades were done by Catholics and I believe it was mainly done for power, riches, land.. all in the name of God… For lack of a better description, that aint cool

Totally agree.. They way I figure it.. if God wants someone dead, he is very capable of doing it himself, he does NOT require me to do it for him..

The bible is full of entries where people pretty much just fell over dead because they kind of ticked God off..

So.. now where is that beer?  Doahhhh…

Ok, I think we all need to get drunk and go to a strip club.... Muah ha CRACK!!!! hmmm lightning missed....

this is off the subject of christianity somewhat and back to the original arguements.. just my .02 though

i think yall kinda confused... the networks don't want your money... neither do Janet, or Justin.. they don't expect to get your money either.. they want your kids money.. (your money I know... but once you give it to the kid... it's "theirs") which the "musicians" and advertisers will get come hell or high water unless you refuse to let your kids buy any of the music/items they are "expected" to buy to be cool during the hip hop age...

I guess you could go completely nazi on your kids and stop it. . . how hard are you willing to fight (and how successful do you think you would be) to keep your kids away from pop culture though?

if would be great if all our kids realized the stupidty of trying to be themselves as long as it's no different than everybody else.. but thats wishful thinking me thinks... her tata's weren't that impressive anyway.. looked kinda saggy.. course she's gotta be 40something by know so i guess it's ok.

Exactamundo Thrasherfox! I have a choice to watch what I want to watch when I know what's going to be on. I could expect to see nakidity on any of the pay channels I have, but I don't expect to see it during the Super Bowl.

That’s all I am saying.. give me a disclaimer next time, I will be fine with whatever happens then. I would have been warned.
(Like a Phoenix, the soap box rises from the ashes.)

Exactamundo Thrasherfox!  I have a choice to watch what I want to watch when I know what's going to be on.  I could expect to see nakidity on any of the pay channels I have, but I don't expect to see it during the Super Bowl.
I agree 100% Big O, The States are fairly unique in that our largest sports competitions are still family affairs. Just look at the number of deaths and riots they have overseas during Rugby and "Football" matches.
So a US sporting event on network TV really should be be considered a family affair and adult supervision shouldn't be neccessary.
However, I still contend that this Stunt hasn't harmed anyone, that Janet and Justin should be fined personaly, and that should be the end of it.

Thanks for throwing this topic out here Big O, and letting me soil your Soapbox yet again... Seems to be a habit of mine...
