My new bike :) Yahoo ha ha

I took my 6 foot bed 92' Ranger pickup down to Sacramento after spotting an add in craigslist.org. Let me tell you the bike is 1/3 the size of my truck.

The rear tire wasn't sitting in the tail gate groove, but almost. I had been looking through cycletrader and ebay for awhile but I jumped on this add because it was only 5 hour drive away. When I got there I already new I was going to take it home with me. I had the guy help me load it in the back of the truck and back home I went the same day. I got a lot of looks; maybe from the size of the bike compared to the truck; but probably just plain envious looks.

I had been really set on getting the Hayabusa for the last two months after spending a couple years thinking about getting the gixxer 1k or 750. I owned a 1988 gsxr750, oil cooled for those that don't know; I'll post some pictures of it later.

This is a salvage title 2005 Hayabusa with 8500 miles on it. I paid $5400. It needs some more money put into it to make it look prestine, but I love it already. The bike was slid on the left side and then dropped hard enough to puncture holes in the plastic, on the right side; transport people probably. So it has a lot of cosmetic damage.

I have coming in the mail a used front seat, aftermarket mirrors, rear cowl, Dunlop Qualifier tires, and an exhaust system.

The main thing I am waiting on right now is the stock mid pipes and mufflers for both sides which didn't come with the bike. I bought these on ebay for $95 including shipping.

I am new to the forums but have already found a ton of information on busas and sportbikes in general.

Here are some pics:

Welcome to the board! Did you get a chance to start/drive the bike before buying? That is a lot of cosmetic damage that would concern me, but if it checked out good for you.

Welcom aboard!!!! This looks like a great project bike. You may think about getting the frame checked for cracks! Better safe than sorry. My 2 cents.//

I have a rule not to jump on an unfamiliar bike when its not mine. So I asked him to test ride it for me. It sounded great despite there being exhaust headers only on the bike. I watched closely and it looked good. The frame has no scratches besides that left side cover, clutch cover? He said its not bent and I looked and the frame doesn't appear to be bent or have any damage anywhere. The front fender did break off which concerns me that the person who crashed might have hit something with the front tire but the forks look perfect.

I have to confess I haven't ridden it yet. Hopefully this week. I heard that its bad on the valves to ride it without the slip-ons/exhaust because there not being any back pressure?

Lol. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to start it; I had the kill switch button in the wrong position or didn't have the clutch pulled in at the time or the kick stand down. So many buttons and levers.

Thx for the replies!!

Welcome to the board!!!! Good lookin ride should be worth fixing, just be sure to have someone check the frame for damage or bends. Oh yeah, nice signature!

Welcome to the best darn Hayabusa board on the planet--- or any planet for that matter!

Thanks all! I had a UPS notice on my door yesterday, so hopefully there will be some parts waiting for me when i get home.

congrats! If you are not capable, i would get a qualified person to inspect the major components of the bike (frame, mounts, swingarm, forks, bearings, axles, tires and wheels) to make sure none are damaged. A missed item could be catastrophic on the road...

Valve damage: 2 things can happen, you can lean it out and torch one (not very likely to happen) the other thing that happens (and is kind of rare but happens in some race cars) is that when the engine is shut off, cool air runs backwards through the engine and hits a hot valve. Valve tweaks...This is more likely without any pipes attached at all.

I doubt that either is going to be an issue for a test ride
