my new boom stick!

One of our weapons techs was big into reloading and working on ballistics, I don't know how much he had invested in this but he sure had a lot of gear.

He went so far as to buy the same sniper platforms we had just to do his own testing at home. He'd submit huge reports to our national weapon's testers on ballistics for our weapons...the guy was a genius when it came to weapons.

I’ve been reloading off and on for 30yrs. A progressive Dillon 550 does most but I still use a super old RCBS single stage press for my target guns.
Getting into it now really doesn’t save much as components especially primers are still stupid high. But it’s therapeutic and allows one to tailor a particular load to meet a guns needs better than factory ammo.

Up

uplula loader is amazing. I don’t manually load anymore. It’s a time and thumb saver.

I’ve never had the need for using one until trying the factory mags that came with the gun. The springs are stupid strong and pushing beyond the 4th round was impossible. Pushing a round object onto another round object didn’t help either. Now, if they were flat… The Colt mags and the McCormick mags for my 1911 are stiff but not thumb killer stiff. The Uplula works great!

A long time ago I tested some soft body armor vests for a police department. I shot handgun calibers from 22 thru 44Mag from six feet away and surprisingly the round that penetrated the most layers of Kevlar was a 22 Stinger, pierced three layers of the 21 layers in the vests. The 44 and 357 mags went thru 1&1/2 layers, not quite thru the 2nd layer. For laughs we taped a 12x12” piece of vest material to 5-6 phone books and shot it with a rifled slug from a 12 gauge pump also from six feet. It didn’t pierce even one layer of the vest but it did push the entire 12x12” vest thru every phone book.

I completely forgot that I had started this thread. So back in August of 22 I mentioned that I was going to build an AR10 chambered in 308. Well a little over a year later I am happy to say its finally finished. I did an
aero build on this one.
20 inch premium bull barrel by ballistic advantage.
ultradyne apollo max compensator
geissele ssaex trigger
geissele billet charging handle
aero buffer group
magpul gen 3 precision stock
tyrant design pistol grip
harris engineering bipod
cryptic coating silver bcg with titanium firing pin
And for the optic I got the Arken ep 5x25

thats the highlights anyways. zeroed it in at 100 yards. sub moa groups for sure. something like 1/2 to 3/4 for a 5 shot group using 168 grain federal gold medal....

the case is pelican. Altogether i have just under $2500 in the rifle and the scope was under $600. The scope is as good as any scope 3 times the money. Its really nice.

That's an excellent price for a quality firearm....

Arken scopes have good reviews....

Looks like a lot of fun...sadly we can never own such a weapon here any longer....

In light of certain current events I decided to get another AR. I have a M&P sport 2 and it is a fantastic entry level AR but I decided it was time to go ahead and build one. I already had a matching upper and lower by Aero Precision along with an Aero .308 lower. While I would love to have done the .308 the .223 was just a lot cheaper to do. Im super happy with the results. bcg is Aero nitride/ballistic advantage hanson barrel. Altogether it cost about $1300 to do which I thought was a bit high but its a quality build. I wish I had done it a couple of years ago when Trump was President and it would have been a lot less but oh well. Its Really light weight compared to my M&P. Just got to get it sighted in. And believe it or not I got the case at Rural King o all places. Its a plano and has the pluck out foam. $90 was all. Its actually better I think then the one I bought for the other AR which was like $130 or so. What you think? Worth it?
