My New Toy

That's reaching out at that distance, I'd be interested to know what round he is using.

I use Hornady SST rds in 7.62 and they can really reach out, they are rated at 3600 fp

I know he likes using heavy bullets, mostly Berger's and around 220-230 gr. in the .300 and as heavy as 350+ gr. in his .375 CheyTac(with some custom made to his specs.).Those CheyTacs are pricey bastards, saw some for around $12,000...scope extra.:laugh:This is the first shootin' iron I've had in almost 40 years,in the late '70's I had a Weatherby .22,a .22-250,a 6mm,a 7mm Rem. Mag,a Winchester model 70 Featherweight in .30-06,a Weatherby Vanguard in .300 Win Mag,and about a dozen Smiths(.22,.357,2-Model 29's in .44 Mag with 8 3/8" barrels),and Colts(Python .357,.45 Gold Cup Natl. Match,.45 Combat Commander),a Detonics in .45,a Thompson Center Contender with 3 scoped barrels in .22 LR,.221 Remington Fireball, and one in .30-30,a Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Special(barrel cut back and hammer bobbed, boot gun:D),several shotguns, and whatever else I'm forgetting at the moment.Had dies for all of the calibers and a bench rest at a friend's farmhouse a couple miles out of town,I lived and breathed shooting for years(practically every weekend). Then around '81 the bottom fell out of the economy and no work to be found(small Illinois town)so as my unemployment checks ran out I was selling my firearms off one or two at a time until they were all gone. Now 38 years later I figured it was about time I pick the hobby back up a little, got some $ for my accident back in May so had to spend it on something.

Man,you guys got me started on guns and I couldn't STFU. :super:

Wow, that is a laundry list of weapons...too bad you had to sell them. Shooting can be rewarding, I do a little but after spending so much time on ranges and such with the military, I grew sick and tired of shooting there for a while.

Glad you are back in your groove.

Where in Illinois are you from? I live in the southern end of the state, moved here from southern California about 20 years ago. We go out in the sticks and shoot...

Wish some of you gun enthusiast lived closer, I would love to do some long distance shooting again. You guys seem much more talented , I was happy at shooting 1500 yds with my Savage 110 BA .338 Lapua, but 3000 yd shots wow you guys put some time in to get that skilled.

I go twenty feet out my door and shoot.
About two months ago in my front little pasture with calves in it I measured off 100 yards and mowed a 15 foot wide "landing strip" to a leaky water trough turned on it's side and taped targets on it. Went to sight in on the target and saw movement behind and focused through the gate behind on a coyote about fifty yards farther watching me and my calves. Popped him in the left eye with steel sights on my 22 hornet H&R and said "Well that one seems to be about right".
Cheapest "hunting trip" I have ever gone on. :p

By al means don't stfu. Nice investment! Heck guns were how I bought my bird. Friend decided to move to NC said he was going to buy a HD down there & wasn't taking the busa. He wanted me to have it since I did all the work on the bike said he was having a midlife crisis.

I grew up in a small(5,000 pop.)town about 80 miles south of Chicago(between Kankakee and Danville),moved from there to Mesa,AZ in'91 and then on to SoCal in '95.Did a lot of partyin' in Carbondale in the early '70's.After 35 years there with the corn and bean fields, snow, humidity, and skeeters I said adios and never looked back.Still have family back there and in Wisconsin, have been back to visit twice(3 days each)since '91.

How’s you like that BA? I was contemplating one the other night then found myself getting more optics for the 556 LR build.

I love the BA....mine is not the new stealth version, which I do not like. I have the older BA version which after shooting both I find the older one more accurate. I have it set up with a Trijicon 5-20X50 scope which hits 1500 yds with practice.

Sorry I would have responded sooner but was on vacation in Northern Virginia.
