neck pain

I would suggest trying to get the weight off your hands. Squeeze the tank and use your lower back muscles and abs to stay upright. You'll be sore until your muscles build up.. but I bet it'll help your neck.

We were out for a ride oneday and a buddy of mine had a busa. I was on my sporster and we had road for abour 8 hrs with a few stops, Anyway he kept telling me how nice his busa was and i ask if i could ride it for a while. Well i road it about 50 miles and my lower back didnt bother me at all. That and that alone convinced me to buy one. My bike came in Oct 17th and i went and looked at it and bought it on the 18th. I love it but like it was said before i usy have to get it to fit me. I love to ride to much to give up. I will figure out what to do for my pain and everything will be fine. If all elce fails i will just stop more and enjoy the scenery. Thanks to all for your advice, Doug

Doug, have you tried loosening up your grip on the bars, I have found that if I do not squeeze the bars and relax my sholders my ride is much more comfortable. Also I try to stay light and flexible on the bike, I'm constantly moving around, shifting my weight, I stand up every time I go over a bump or track, I ride my street bikes like dirt bikes, I'm all over them. I don't just plop down in the seat and stay, I try to support a lot of my weight with my legs. Sport bikes are way more comfortable than cruisers, it's hard to get a cruiser dude to believe that, but you are proof. Another really weird thing is that raising the seat on a sport bike has made it more comfortable for me. I have raised the tail on my last 3 sportbikes and they were way more comfortable. I'll post up when I raise the tail on my busa, check out the thread when I do it, I always get a bunch of opinions every time I raise one.

relax your shoulders. sounds like you might be doing the I don't know pose while ride'n. physically push them down.

i know this great massage parlor in robbinsville

Thanks to all, Back in 97 after my first back surg i had to sell my CB 1000 and i didnt ride for a while. I got my sporster and started to ride again but just never liked the harley. I just always thought i would never be able to ride a sport bike again and figured the sporster would be better for my back. Boy was i supprised

Now i look foward to every nice day that we have now so i can get out and ride. I have the only 08 in town here and i get lots of looks when i stop and for me that makes it worth all the pain. Anyway thanks again and i will do everything i can to solve this problem i have. One other thing i did. When i took my seat to have the gel pace put in it i road the bike home just setting on the frame and it felt so good. I am thinking about making my own seat and put it right on the frame with a gel pack. It was kind of like setting on a prostock bike and i was looking straight ahead. Just a thought. This is my bike after i lowered it 2 inches. Thanks again to all, Doug

A buddy went from a07 to an 08.He had heli bars and a genmar .The genmar is a ince and a half, with the heli he can almost set strait up. No more neck pain. Also the genmar was for the 07 he had it cut to fit,it looks cool with that much drop.I don't think you could do that much genmar and a heli bars on the first gen.

Dude.
It is at least chilly out if not down right bitter. You may need a better seal around your neck shoulders and face. If you are getting cold you are getting tight. Believe me it dont take long to make you sore from that. Also try some sort of throttle lock so you can shake your hand out and not feel like you need to give it the death grip at posted speeds. One thing I have found on the cruisers is that the more spots you can chainge your position to the longer you can ride in comfort. I understand it may be a bit harder to change around on a busa but try scooting forward an inch to change the hot spot on the butt and change your reach every now and again. hicker grips also help with hand and neck pain as you dont grip them as firm.

You need a Tobin seat. Probably MUCH better than anything else that can be cut down and made comfortable. Custom built for you based on height, weight, and waist size, and around $150-175 depending on options.

Number one, none of us are qualified to give advice if you have a medical condition and a "bad back". Pretty common for most people to have some type of back problems. Have you been to a doctor? Did you injure your back in an accident, fall etc? Or is it father time catching up with you? Is the pain a soreness or outright sharp pinching "bite a bullet pain"? Neck soreness and tight muscles are a "given" anytime you start riding after a period off the saddle. If you have seen a doctor and got an ok to ride, some things I would suggest and you can take it or leave it.
Check the heals of all your boots and shoes, if the heals are worn on one side..... throw them away or resole them. Never ride in a car or on a motorcycle with a wallet in your back pocket. Stretch (yoga) and exercise your back, neck and abdominal muscles. If you are over weight, go on a diet program. Try a kidney belt, the added support will help.
just some tips that might help. This is all assuming you do not have an underlying serious medical condition. See a doctor or two.....preferably one that rides motorcycles....good luck finding that one. If you are taking aspirin before you ride STOP !!! Take Tylenol.... anything else will thin your blood. If you ever go down and receive a bleeding injury........your blood will not clot very well. If want to test this.......cut yourself shaving after taking aspirin.

Eesh that really sucks. I dunno man. It sounds like you are still struggling with pain and possibly hanging on to the bike because people like to look at it. Don't worry, when it becomes 'last years bike' you will not get as many looks. For a sport bike, the Busa is pretty comfy. But I don't understand why anyone would try to switch from a cruiser to a sport bike if the main reason was comfort. Yeah, the Busa would be more comfortable at 100mph than a Sportster but for cruising around town and doing 30 minutes of commute each day I think the Sporster is probably going to be a little easier on your back!

Whoa!

You can't ride a Sportster and you bought a Busa for comfort???

Never happen, Chief.

Best of luck, seriously. Sounds like you're defying logic at
this point though...
Actually it's very logical. I can't stand to ride any bike that I sit straight up on for more than a few hours. I feel every bump in my lower spine. When I ride a bike that makes me lean forward a bit more it makes me use my stomach and core muscles to support my body, and I don't have to absorb every bump through my spine. Everyone has a different body, but that is what works for me.
