As stated by a few people before, Vizio offers a great deal of quality for the money. They're one of the cheapest LCDs out there, with a very nice picture. I know several people with them, and they are all quite happy with them. Personally, I'm sporting a Samsung 50" DLP for my movie watching / gaming needs.

If you do any sort of gaming on your TV, make sure to pay attention to the refresh rate. Some LCDs on the market have some pretty poor rates and it will lead to blurry and sluggish gaming.

+1 for LCD. Plasma is to delicate and has a much shorter life. Have you looked into thin projection DLP TVs? I hear they are pretty decent. But for my self I'm going LCD.
