Need input from anyone

I would like to hear from those that have installed a K&N air filter on their Busa. Did the gasket and filter line up with the stock holes or did you have to fiddle with it a bit before you were able to screw it down?

I ask because the holes in the gasket didn't line up quite right. It doesn't end there! I finally got the gasket into a fairly good position where the holes on the gasket somewhat lined up with the holes on the air-box. I installed the second gasket without any problems. I then put in the filter and started to screw in place. This is where the fun begins. I tried about half an hour to get all five screws in.

I called K&N and told them I wasn't too happy about how much trouble it is to put in this filter. The customer service guy (Tom) was really nice and offered to replace the filter free of charge. They would even pay for shipping of the old K&N filter back to them so I would not incur any cost. Cool!

This is why I'm asking if anyone had the trouble I did with the filter. I don't want to go through this if all their filters for the Busa fit like this.

After I got all the screws tightened the filter just doesn't seem to fit. Let me know your thoughts. Look at the picture and let me know if you would keep it on the bike with it bowed like this. Thanks in advance for your replies.

mine fit just perfect on my 05 and that lil bow i wouldnt worry about it too much not a lot of dirt moving around in that area

man it's been a long while since I looked at mine.....but doesn't that gasket go down INSIDE the airbox?
The bottom edge of the filter presses against it to seal on the upper floor.

There are two gaskets. The one you see in the picture has holes that line up with the holes on the air-box. According to the instructions it goes between the filter and the outside of the air-box. There is another gasket that sits inside the air-box.

This particular filter just doesn't seem to fit. That's why I want to hear from others if they had this much trouble or fitting issues. I know I could have received a filter that somehow got messed up in production.

Although you don't need to clean the filter too often, I really don't want to go through this alignment issue every time I remove it and put it back on.

i believe i had to mess w/ mine a bit to get her lined up. if it is out of line alot, then contact whomever you purchased it from and ask if they can replace it. another option would be to contact k&n tech support. 800-858-3333/ tech@knfilters.com
hope that helps

they already offered to replace it...take the replacement. if they ask for this one to be returned...then send it (it helps them in quality control) to them......if not, then you will have 2 filters....one to use while the other is being cleaned.

Yours looks warped pretty bad, I'd have them replace it. Or take it bake to where you bought it and ask them for the replacement. Then they would have to deal with K&N and you would get faster service.

Just my .02

Anyone else have input on this. I really would like to have a K&N, but not if it doesn't fit any better than this.

It just seems odd to me that they supply two gaskets to insure a tight seal, but no one questions the bow and gap around the filter and gasket in my picture. If the gasket supplied is to insure a tight seal then why would it be okay to have bow in the filter which bypasses the gasket.

Is anyone's K&N bowed like mine? Thanks.

BTW...mine fits fine.  No issues going out or in.
Thanks! Maybe I just got a bad filter. I cannot imagine that K&N cannot get quality control better than this. I think I will call K&N back and tell them I want to exchange. If the second K&N filter is hard going on or doesn't line up then I guess I will keep using the stock filter.

it's a blem...or you inserted it upside down....or in the wrong bike....or it's the wrong part number...or your airbox is bent.....just send it back when the new one arrives.

that way you'll be able to see the difference.

mine had no such issue.

they supply two gasket because the OEM one have the foam already glued to them.

3 K&Ns and all fit well, exchange at the POS, lil faster than shipping.

Hell, still good service from K&N. I might guess yours got shipped or stored wrong. You might hit that with a torch and flatten it back out.
