You can use a thinner foam seal, that will make it fit a little better. Other than that mine fit the same way, i just didn't tighten the screws as much. I also used blue locktite on the screws.???
Thanks! Maybe I just got a bad filter. I cannot imagine that K&N cannot get quality control better than this. I think I will call K&N back and tell them I want to exchange. If the second K&N filter is hard going on or doesn't line up then I guess I will keep using the stock filter.
I installed a BMC in mine...but the filter design itself is similiar. If I remember theres a lip in the top of the air filter cover with a rubber o-ring that seals against the airbox. That big foam gasket should not be sandwiched between the cover and air box...thats a sealed fit to ensure air box pressurization. That foam gasket is wayy to big or the wrong one or installed wrong....but for whatever reason its not right. Don't leave it like that...
