Need realistic suggestions

I'm not gonna tell you not to buy the busa, but it is a handfull no joke.If you dont have any discipline with the right hand, steer away from this bike,it will show you who's boss.It can also get you in a lot of trouble with the police. You being 21,I doubt you'd get much of a break with insurance, you'll probably pay more a month for that than your bike payment assuming you finance it.I'm guessing you'll pay close to 3-4 thousand a year for full coverage. If you get the busa, respect it and be aware that you may out run the police a time or two, but the odds are against you.Who knows? Think it over,go to a dealership and sit on one, its BIG, very BIG and HEAVY.NJ.

Does the Busa go 30 mph? I dont think my speedo has sat at the 30mph more than a brief second....I guess what Im saying is the Busa is so smooth, that what you may think is only 30 mph is actually 70mph....thus when you think your going 70 you realize your doing triple digits. No doubts anyone can get on a busa and hang on, or get lucky...but if you plan on riding for alot of years I would consider your skill level and use your best self judgement. On a bike like the Busa, there are very few second chances. Good luck & enjoy whatever you decide to go with.

p.s. Listen to the people on this forum, lots of experience and knowledge...these people arnt telling you not to get one because of their ego. Real life experience on a Busa is completely different than a magazine article, or a Holywood movie.

You're gonna die son....

Sorry ... but even a 600 is too much to start off on...

Wanna start off with maybe a 250 and learn your trade..

Then work your way up as your knowledge and experience increase

granted I've ridden motorcycles for 15+ yrs before I bought my busa..... It was my FIRST streetbike I've owned. If you don't know how to ride at all.... then I would say no way. Its to heavy to learn to manuveur safely. If you know how to ride fairly well I don't see why not.

Don't underestimate a 600cc sportbike. My second bike, a 1982 GPz 1100 had 108 HP, had twin rear shocks, no front fork damping or preload adjusters and a spindly little swingarm. At the time, that was the top of the line sport bike (of course shared with the Suzuki GS 1100 E). At the time, I couldn't beleive they allowed them on the road. Modern day 600s have about the same HP, 150+ lbs lighter and all the trick suspension gadgetry. You can probably buy one of these bikes a couple of years old for less than 1/2 the cost of a new Busa. It will be a great low-cost way to learn to ride and I'm sure you will find it challenging and exciting. After riding it for a year or two, you will be just in time to buy the new and improved 2007 Hayabusa. If you are 21, never rode a bike before and desperately want a Hayabusa, I think it is more for a status symbol to pick up the chicks. If that is what you feel you need to get laid, then go for it. Take your Busa out to the twisties, and watch all the 600s go whipping by you.

30mph? Here is a dose of reality -- the busa will go 80 mph in FIRST GEAR!! - then there are 5 more. I would recommend going dirt first if you have never been on a bike. Dirt riding will help your coordination and teach you how to handle slides and obstacles. Its a lot easier to learn too when cagers aren't trying to kill you. A used (semi beat) gs 550 was my first street bike and it put me in a body brace in less than 30 days. Hit some gravel in a turn and highsided. I THOUGHT I was ready for a gsxr750 and a buddy talked me out of it. I lived and I learned (RESPECT).

If you've never ridden a bike nor have any experience at all, then I say do not get a Busa as a first bike. It is too much for a person that has no amount of experience at all.

I don't agree that there is a certain amount of time or miles you need on a bike to be able to handle a Busa. With that said, I will say that your biggest ally is going to be experience, and, unfortunately one needs to put some time on a bike before that experience is learned.

I just took the MSF course in October to get my motorcycle license. I have 13 years of street bike experience but I let my motorcycle license lapse a long time ago. In the class was a young 16 year old boy that was planing on getting a Kawasaki 1000 when he completed the course. He never had even been on a bike before this class. Well, for someone that had never ridden before he did so well at picking it up that you'd swear that he had experience. He passed all his range tests and didn't even have any point deductions. With even as well as he did I still don't believe he should get the 1000 as a first bike. He just doesn't have enough real world, common since riding experience to get him out of trouble.

So my advice to you is to start on something smaller. You don't need 10K miles or to ride a year first. Just remember that the more experience you have, the better you can handle a Busa when the time comes.

My Busa was my first sportbike and I think "mature" is the key word here. If you respect it's power and potential you will do fine. I only had about 1 1/2 years of experience under my belt when I took it on and I would'nt trade one minute of it for anything else. If you understand it's power and take it easy you would be fine. Just my 2 cents.

do you drink?

then NO!!!!

However, if you want to sell the car and get a Busa then I say go for it. Make sure you take the Motorcycle Safety Course.

i got my busa when I was 22... but I'd been brought up on dirt bikes, and street bikes before I had a license..

I wasn't mature enough for it. .. or the 750 before it... but luck, and a lot of prior riding experience saved my ass several times.

without the prior riding.. i don't think I'd have kept it in one peice more thana few months.

been there. done that. you'll kill yourself if this is your first bike. You are young like me so I know.. you friends will lead you on to wheelies and burnouts, you will start modding it, you will not have been trained or experienced enough to know how to react in an emergency situation, etc etc. Start small bud, thats all there is to it. the busa is my 7th bike after well iver 100K miles in the past 3 years (riding since 18) and it still kicks my butt.

Riding a bike like the Hayabusa is a graduation process. By riding a sucession of less powerful bikes over many years you develope the skills necessary to handle a bike like the Busa. Many younger kids hop on a powerful sports bike before they are ready for it with dire results

Saok it all in.... These guys know what they are talking about. Take a MSF course and buy a small bike to learn on.

Keep one thing in mind. And always keep it in mind.

Maybe itll feel alittle better coming from a younger rider , im 19 , had my first sport bike at 15 , cbr600F2 , about 7 months later moved up to a gsxr750 , then jumped to a used 01 Zx12 in 02 , just bought a 06 hayabusa in november and it took me alittle time to get a feel for the bike. its longer bigger and heavier , its harder to learn control on if you dont already have a somewhat sense of the handeling of a sport bike. I agree to NOT get the hayabusa as a beginner bike. a smaller naked bike would be a wise choice , And expect this , i pay $298/month on liability ONLY on my hayabusa. Full cogerage was quoted to me over $1100. Also get a bike that feels right to you , Dont just get a bike because its cool or its the baddest bike around. You may like the R6 better than the hayabusa , go sit on a few and get an opinion on rider position , how the bike feels ontop of it , how your legs feel. You dont want to be straddling a wide hayabusa seat if your legs arent that long and your not that big... major cramps. anyway sorry its so long but just wanted to try and touch alittle on everything i think is important... take the msf class ALSO most states have defensive and evasive classes , id advise to look into thoes also. Better to be prepared. When you do get your first bike dont be like me and wear jean shorts and a muscle shirt with a halmet it doesnt feel nice or look cool when your rashed up. good gear , dont waste money on the cheap stuff , pay alittle more and have the ease of mind it WILL keep you from getting hurt. Goodluck and hope i didnt put you to sleep lol.

My name is Suzukid but I'm actually 21. Anyways I'm thinking about selling my tricked out nissan and getting a hayabusa. Now first thing I hear is that I should buy a little honda and learn on that and get experience before mounting a busa  . My intentions for the Hayabusa isn't to tweak its performance or anything like that, sport bikes are dangerous enough as they are. I'm just looking for something to cruise on on the weekends not for racing or pulling stunts . So , with this all said , do you guys think a mature beginner could safely learn slowly (on very low max speeds like 30mph for example) and build up enough to eventually master riding it (at higher than 30mph yet average highway speeds )  in like 8 months or so ? I have no prior experience in riding a motorcycle .
Are you feelin' lucky??

G'day Suzikid. You are probably getting sick of reading a these responses but they are for your own growth bro. Here is a little test for you if you haven't already done it. Go for a ride as a pillion on a busa with a competent mate of yours if possible. Just to feel the forces at work, they are really outside of the average dudes conception. Watch how little his wrist and brake fingers move to bring those forces on. Now subtract your weight and add a good dose of young bloke testoterone. I hate to sound like a butt hole but I hate reading how hurt many young, no change that, newish riders are getting killed or hurt on big bores. Good luck to you, whatever you choose.

Well , this post is a few months old , I wonder if the Suzuki Kid got the Busa ? I wish him lots of luck if he did , he'll need it .:;):
