just picked her up yesterday, 04 silver and blue. put little over 200 miles on it so far. i've noticed that i have been hitting a neutral spot (able to free rev) quite a few times. its embarassing. this isnt my first bike, maybe its just normal. just wanted some feedback from the rest of the community.

Welcome to the board and one of the many Busa traites.

I think just about everyone here has found that neutral spot. You just need to make sure you lift the shifter all the way up or it will miss.

Congrats on the new Busa.

What..... do ya have week feet or something....Shift with a nice firm stroke ya panzies........hehehehehe.....just kiddin guys I've found it too....a few times now.

ok,ill just have to be alittle more rough with the big lady. thats just the first time i encountered something like that. thanks for the replies.

Hvent had those much at all lately, Synthetic oil makes a big diff when it comes to false nuetrals, but I did have 1 yesterday between 5-6 so it happens... after break in, try some clutchless shifts ( up only! )

just make sure that you preload the shift lever before you squeeze the clutch or roll off throttle and then when you want to shift put POSTIVE pressure on the lever. Sometimes the busa likes it a little rough

..and then the ugly part; having to put it back in gear.. BAANG!.. ..not the nicest of things while doing anything from 100 to 150 mph (..or more, but I am sure this is an "easy-does-it" symptom, and we all found this spot when "cruising" and not during hard throttling..)

They all do it. Set your shift pivot to your foot (boot or shoe) and shift harder.

Yep My '04 LTD does this too. The advise given here is good though, if you just shift a little more "positivly" then you dont run into this problem. She gets cranky if you treat her to gently...

False neutrals on this bike are not due to rider error, if it were then the fault would be apparent on all gears and not predominantly 4th & 5th and 5th & 6th.
This fault has been reported since the production of the Hayabusa and Suzuki were made fully aware af the fault in 1999 following a test carried out in Australia. They have clearly done nothing effective to resolve this potentially lethal problem. Who are the mugs?

YEP, LIKE ALL THE REST, MY 'O4 LOVES TO LAY THERE BETWEEN 5TH AND 6TH, AND THEN OF COURSE THERE IS THE MILD PANIC AS I TRY TO REMEMBER TO GRAB THE CLUTCH AGAIN SO THAT HOPEFULLY I WON'T KNOCK THE TRANS CLEAN OUT OF THE BIKE. I'M AT 1957 MI. SO WILL BE CHANGING TO MOBIL 1 SOON, I HOPE THAT HELPS, IT'S PRETTY OBVIOUS THAT THE FACTORY ISN'T CONCERNED.

The last time mine did that was at about 600 miles, I'm up to 1000 now. Either I've learned to shift harder or it stopped doing it. I haven't done it since 600. (no that I say that, it'll probably happen tomorrow)

They all do it and it is not a problem with the bike. During the break in period which is the first 3000-5000miles not just the first 1000 like most people think you need to be a little more positive about your shifts. Shifting will improve alot after about 1500miles. Don't use synthetic oil until you reach 3000miles.
