New busa new owner issues.

Hi, just picked up a stock 2004 Hayabusa that's been in storage for about 2 years. 9500 miles. New to the Hayabusa platform, so just wondering if anyone has any idea where i could start.

Anyway it's having throttle issues, I rode it home yesterday and the bike seems to just surging around 4000 rpm. It's like the throttle has no acceleration curve. It's either on %100 throttle or off.

I'm thinking, dump any gas, spark plugs, oil change.

Congrats! Welcome to the forum!
That's where I'd start. The tank had fuel in it for those years in storage?
I'd alao swap out the rest of the onboard fluids, maybe skip the radiator, for now.

Welcome to the .org! Know you said it is a stock '04, but that can be a relative term. Are there any mods to it at all? Posting pics is also helpful. Agree with draining and replacing all the fluids, changing the spark plugs. Cleaning the fuel tank is probably a good idea, as well. The Gen1s did have an inherent dead spot around 4k. Most corrected with by updating the fuel mapping.

If it were me, I wouldn't have even started it until I did a complete fuel system flush and deep clean as running it will push all the debris farther into the system....and make it more of a headache to clean.

Just as @BigBSBusa said, some pictures would be great, especially of the inside of the fuel tank and general condition...

How and where was it stored? was the fuel drained before hand?

As was said here already, dump all fluids, clean and replace, sitting for two years does crazy things......

It’ll be a fuel problem you’re going to be dealing with, storage of bikes like this always ends up with a lot of work to bring them back to full operational condition.
Welcome, everyone here knows that Gen 1 Busas are the best model but a few are in denial on that point lol.

I bought an 04 last fall and it had fuel issues that turned out to be clogged injectors. Start at the tank and check to see if you have a good steady flow of fuel coming out of the fuel pump. Then go on to the injectors. Mine is finally running and is scary fast compared to my XS1100 Yamaha, which I always considered to be pretty quick. Best of luck getting her running.

After a 3,000+ mile multi state tour my (new before the trip) air filter was jammed up with bees/wasps. The filter material was still snow white being just a couple weeks old.

I wouldn’t have very much trust in twenty year old rubber brake lines so ifIwuzU, I’d replace them with Galfer braided SS brake lines when you flush out the M/C and replace the old brake fluid. Adding EBC HH brake pads will increase your stopping power and with SS lines will make the stock brakes work as well as possible. Remember too that twenty year old fork oil is…not good. IfIwuzU I’d have new fork seals installed when new fork oil is added. It’s no use to just have new oil added. The seals are twenty years old too.

The good news is that with your (soon to be) well serviced first Gen Busa with under 10,000 miles, you can look forward to lots and lots of more miles. My 06 LE, owned since new and properly serviced and never stored is approaching 84,000 Smiles and still has the original clutch. Pics now, if you please.

It's a "fast idle lever", but yes moving it towards you increases the RPM.

It's cold and almost winter so these are the best pics I could get at the moment. She's bright red. Had to use flash. Hopefully get some warm westher here before the winter hits and I can properly take her out.
