just picked up an '11 busa, tryin to pick out tha exhaust deff goin with the yosh r77- but my concern is not having a cat. with the full exhaust will it throw a code for that. and is it a must to get the bike tuned after the full exhuast (ive read yes and no). if its to much hassle will just get the dual slip on the price diff. is only around 50 bux.

If you install a full exhaust it is recommended that you use a fuel management system such as a Power Commander or Bazzaz and some folk on here love simply flashing the ECU. Along with that you will need a map or a custom tune! If you have not already, use the search function as there is a wealth of information on this on just about any exhaust you can think of! Good luck and have fun!!

You can simply turn the oxygen sensor off within the computer if you decide to flash the ecu. Then just simply unplug the oxygen sensor and throw it to the side. Same goes with the pair valve. Just click a button within the ecueditor software when you are creating a map for your bike. Ecueditor (reflashing ecu) is cheaper plus you are able to customize alot more things within your stock computer. Want your cooling fans to come on sooner or want the top end limiter turned off? Just a click of a button in the software. You can control an air shifter and nitrous through your ecu via ecueditor as well. Check out the ecu reflash interface here: boostbysmith.com - Home

don't waste your time. If you don't want to get a custom tune made, don't even waste your time reflashing or buying a power commander. A factory computer with the oxygen sensor still connected will do just fine with the yosh pipe. I ran the r55, same header, on the factory computer with no piggyback for 15k miles. Just depends what you want.

Stevo is right. You don't have to. Just giving an option where you can customize things the way you want them.

The Gen II couldn't keep up with the Brocks exhaust I installed, so I have the PC and plug for the O2. If you don't need the PC then you'll be fine. No FI light after install then you're good to go. Slip-ons are a waste to me.

Hmm well I do not plan on trackin or racing the bike. Don't think I wanna do tha full exhaust and tune thing Looks like I will be goin with tha dual slip on.

Stevo and pbpd you guys are on crack I have a full r77 and with no tune my bike made 165 at the tire and was pig rich with a dyno tune using a PC III it made 183 so yes tunes do work and are needed regardless of which way you decide to go PCIII or ECU edit.

Slip ons are almost as much as a full system. But yeah if you don't want to get it tuned they are the way to go

I made more on the factory ecu than you made on your pc3. I think I would question the shop that "tuned" your bike lol

going from the factory ecu to a pcv, tuned on tuning link, netted me 5 horsepower. Is 5 horsepower worth 280 bucks for a pc5 and 250 for a tune? that's for you to decide.

EDIT: with factory cans my bike made more than 165hp.

haha let me see if I have them, this was over a year ago. Maybe I can get craig or steve from smithers customs to chime in. The bike made 185 on the factory ecu with the r55 full and a few other tricks.

Your bike will always run better with a base map, or idealy dyno tuned. But your bike will run safely just fine without a tune, and still probably better than stock.

yup. spot on.

I'm glad to see a couple other guys posting this too. I've ask many times before to see all the leaned out, burned down, otherwise stock bikes with a full aftermarket exhaust...that got ruined from no tune. Never happens:laugh:
Myth busted.

I'm sure tha tune would make it run much smoother even off a basemap. But sure it will run just fine on stock ecu settings. My concern is tha o2 sensor throwing some kind of cel light or something siince I assume tha full exhaust has no cat. ( I have only modded cars) but figured tha bikes r tha same

no, there is no secondary o2 sensor to compare with. It'll never know the cat is gone. Bikes are simpler.

No, the FI light will not come on. I had a full R77 on my gen2, (got rid of) and now have slip ons with a stock header and catalytic converter gutted. My bike has never been tuned either(I will with ECU Editor as soon as I have cash for the exhaust I want though).
My FI light has never came on and my bike runs and idles fine. Would a tune help it? Definately. Do I need it? Nope.
My spark plugs also look fine, the engine isn't lean.
