They are very well armored throughout. In fact, you will notice its quite stiff at first until you get it broken in. I have the '03 black/grey.

I have the older Black/Silver jacket. It looks the same except for the color. If this is true, be aware that these jackets do run small. Try one on if you can before ordering.::
