New HID kit, shuts down when starting.

Realizing yours is a GenI have you read this thread? Done by a guy who knows just a lil.

I understand your having problems and some do but not many. You'll find info on relays and links to folks who did their own install threads above. I've had mine in for over 2.5 yrs and they work perfectly as do most.
It is possible you got a bum kit or ballast but again go thru the motions, check your connections and follow any tips contained in thread above before you start to lay blame on a company many are very happy with. $25 bucks a piece with a lifetime warranty in bulbs and ballasts is still better than any I've seen.

And still no answer to my question,
I have only sold and installed hundreds of Hid kits, on bikes!

Thanks, I have been looking on the web for one of these, i find the compact size appealing.
Oddly, it says on their website thair product covers positive and negative switching setup's so it doesnt matter which type you have. When i went to order, one, it then asks if i have a positive or negative switching system as you can only order one of the other.... sigh. I assume it's a positive switching system, but can you confirm before i order one.
T

Its a wolstentech TDR-P
Its a positive switch..
I have no clue on if they burn out fast.but i know alot of guys had good luck with the other relay switch plus the 528t is cheaper at around 12 dollars..im not really sure if a relay will solve your problems but it will not hurt to have one..

It really sounds like a week battery, if it is a 99,or it is sure to be a voltage problem with the starter.
Just nature of the first gen bike!
Either a relay, tied in with the starter switch, or the DEI time delay will fix the problem.
It is not DDM Tunings fault, now if the bulb turned on and flickered then shut off before start, then it would be DDM's fault!
I heard it was only 99 not hundreds. :poke:

Thanks, its not an overcharging issue. Can you explain how you have the "relay off the battery" hooked up?
Thanks

T

I bought an actual HID relay and harness kit.It hooks rght to the battery so it gets a full 12 volts. This is critical for best perfomance. The shop that installs these says the relay is best for the ballasts.I havent had one problem after I replaced the regulator.

Just turn the key on, depress the starter button, and pull the clutch in. Light never goes off.

+1. I hold the starter button in, turn the key on, wait for the gauges to calibrate and the fuel system to pressurise, then pull in gthe clutch to start the bike.. This keeps the headlights from firing until after the bike is running. Not only does the headlight staying on, it keeps the balast firing from messing with the gauges.

This is the proper way to start a Gen II with HID lights without the delay timer. I have been using this method for years with zero problems to date.

Wrong, light never comes on untill it starts. The stock lights go out as well when you start it but holding it will keep the HIDs from firing off.

FWIW i had a very similar problem when i installed my hid's (diff brand). i wired such that, 12+ source for (2)40a spdt relays wired directly to the battery using factory hi & lo headlight wiring as the triggers. if you have hid for hi & lo beam, you could always try swapping ballasts to see if problem goes away. its easy enough to do BEFORE you go cutting everything back apart.

mine were new as well, still ended up being a bad ballast. :banghead:
