In the fuel rail above the injectors. Correct?

No, there are no filters in the fuel rail.
The filter is in the injector itself, in the tip, under the black plastic cap.
This is an injector out of my '03 Gsxr1k that I just did.
The other end/tip looks different on a Busa, but the filter end and internal filter is of the same design.
To remove them, thread in a bolt
(M6, pitch doesn't matter, it's just to bite the I.D. of the filter's plastic cage, so you have a grip to pull with).
Grab the bolt with vice grips(or a vice), and the injector with the other hand, and slowly pull and work the filter out...a vice makes this Much easier.
Then I clean the injectors(activate with battery, flush Both directions).
The easiest way to put in a new injector filter, is to put the filter upright on a flat surface, and Slowly push the injector over the filter, until it seats flush.

This is a Busa injector, as you can see the tip has a different design than the Gsxr's pictured above, but, the filter end is the same, as is the filter's replacement, which is worth doing on a gummed up fuel system.
The filter is under the black cap, that the blue arrow points to.
(the visible upper and lower o-rings are external seals, and should be replaced if they have hardened, rotted, or have obvious damage. A light coat of vaseoline is recommended to prevent the o-rings/seals from rolling, pinching, or tearing on install).

My memory recalled they were in the rail. I wanted to say one on each end. But I'll believe everything you just presented.

I think I actually have pics somewhere. Now I'm curious if there was an early and later version of Gen 1s.

I don't think so, but give me a minute to check, as I can't remember either...

Nope, there is an extra fitting on one of the external fuel pump bike's fuel rail, but all the gen1 injectors are of the same design.
If I recall correctly there were 2 different injectors available, with the only difference being the spray pattern, but other than the small spray tip difference, the injectors and fuel rails are the same.
No filters in either fuel rail.
 
The replacement injector filters are not available as oem replacement parts either...you have buy a new injector, lol.
The filter is not pictured here, as it is considered part of the injector, but it is located between numbers 5 and 7 in All of the diagrams.
Here is early '99 fuel system, 2 versions.
And 2007, still otherwise the same.
And 2002-2007 are the same otherwise anyway.

Welcome, looks like a nice example. Maybe dropped on its right side? Are those tire marks over the kanji? Yes there is a sidestand switch but it won’t allow the bike to start, not run poorly. I’d hate to get a bike that’s had several injectors and plugs and a fuel pump ‘ECM’ replaced on a bike with such low miles. Good luck!
No skid marks on the kanji. Probably just a reflection from my tractor or something. And the ECM that I was referring to wasn't about the fuel pump. I just don't know if the electronic brain is called an ECM like on cars and trucks or something else. The seller also gave me the extra three sets of plugs, the two extra sets of injectors, a power commander, an ECM and a few other things that he had replaced and are likely good parts.
