New member: So, how black is the '08?

Hi everyone, thanks for info I have received over the past months of lurking. I own a midnight saphire blue '08 ZX-14 and actively participate on a couple boards pertaining to that bike.

Is the 08 black hayabusa a solid, dense black or is it some kind of pearly gray-black? It looks dark grey in the photos with specs from manufacturer.

BTW, I have a lot more questions........

The 08 is a gray, the TRUE black is on the Orange and Black 08 and :welcome:

In the light it's definately gray with some black, when light isnt directly on it then it looks black. I have a black 07 that is definately black and when you put the 07 and 08 side by side its very clear how grey the 08 is. The new 09 is solid black too......

Originally I thought I wanted the 08 black/grey, but after looking at it closely, I realized it was more grey than black. I didn't think I'd like the orange until I saw the color in person. It's hard to describe, but it seems more red than orange, and it really "pops".

All good info here...hope you got what you needed...

Do you have plans to get a 'busa?

Why do people keep getting these colors confused...

The only part that is BLACK on the 08's is the secondary side fairing which is BLACK on all three colors (probably so Suzuki could save money) with the exception of the tail on the Orange/Black.

The 08 bike is Phantom Grey Metallic primary color with Pearl Nebular Black as the secondary....

The 09 is Pearl Nebular BLACK as the primary color with Phantom Grey Metallic as the secondary...

See on the side where the fairing splits with the contour of the panel. Essentially the split in the fairing where the bolt is all the way down to the belly wing. That is the secondary color location. All Suzuki did was flop the two colors on the 08/09 bikes.... ;)

:welcome: i have an 08 orange/black. however if you look at it in the light it is a black with a blue metallic clear. the black is not a true black.

I call it gunmetal the '09 black. All you need to know is that it is the fastest color

I've seen the orange/black. Looks more loke a rich Sienna orange in person but in every pic I've seen, it looks like a beautiful scarlet. That's my fav but black would be sweet. Not sweet enought to pay an extra 1500$ or more to own an 09, though.

Yeah. I'm almost set on owning one. I had an incredibley hard time deciding between the 08 14 and the 08 busa. My main concern was performance and little by little, I started to read things that pointed to the busa as more the speed-ready machine of the two.

The most important fact I've learned is that the 08 busa hits top speed 1.5 seconds faster than the 08 14. Also, the busa seems to have power increase nearly all the way to redline where the 14 starts to crest around 8.5K. Now add electronic stearing damper, good scraper pegs, automatically adjusting a/f for pipe, more agressive riding position, better aerodynamics.....I don't know, what else? The busa clearly seems to have been designed more for the sport rider than the 14.

I know the busa will be less comfortable but that's always a given when you're shopping performance. If anyone has ridden both machines, please tell your impressions of performance. You might either convince me to hop on a busa or save me enough bread to buy that new gix 1K to go with the 14 instead.

......and thanks for all the welcomes -

:welcome: to the .org I still say the 08 blue/gold is the best color and the fastest. I like the white busa's too, to bad they don't sell the white in the U.S.A
