First of all, hello to everyone here. I'm glad I found this forum. Now I'm glad to be a part of it.

Ok, where to begin....

After hours and hours online looking at video, pictures, reviews... and phone calls to dealers and insurance agents... I stepped into a nearby zuki dealer this afternoon with a check for $10k from my finance company (and $500 cash in my wallet). Ok, I should backtrack for a second. I first made some last minute phone calls today to check insurance costs. I'm 34yrs old with no accidents or tickets and I had many quotes that were anywhere from $2400 to $3300 per year to insure a Busa. The lowest I found was $1700. Well, I'm glad I called State Farm (NO, NOT a plug for them)... I got a quote from them for.... drum roll... $380 every 6mos! I ended up getting $220 every 6mos because I have a family member with a SF policy. I was so relieved because the insurance cost was going to play a major part in helping me make my decision in regards to which bike I was going to buy.... either a Busa or a gixxer 600. I figured if I couldn't own a Busa, then I'd just save the money and get a 600 because that would more than satisfy me... but... I wanted the Busa... a black one. ONLY the black one.

So, I walked into the dealer with the money in my pocket... ready to buy a bike. I was going to play it smart and actually take my time. I had an out the door quote from another dealer for ten-two and for this particular dealer, they quoted me at ten-four on the phone, so I was ready to deal. I visited this dealer ready to rock because I knew they had a black Busa and a black 600. So I sat on the 600, 1000, and the Busa. I have owned a road bike in the past. A 90 Katana 600. Ok.... laugh! It's cool! LOL! And get ready... I haven't ridden a road bike in about 6 years! Ok... laugh again! But, I remember what it felt like... the weight of it. And I did research and discovered the Kat 600 is about equal in weight to the Busa. So I felt confident I could at least handle the bike at stops. I'm 5'10" 170lbs.

Ok... so after sitting on the gixxers and the Busa... the Busa just felt better. The gixxers felt small. I liked how my body fit on the Busa. It felt good. I stood it upright and moved it side to side to see how I could handle the weight, and I felt ok with it. The bike just felt soooo good! So...

I said "F-it!"... because when I first got my Kat 600 back in 96, that was the first motorcycle I had ever ridden in my entire life besides a 240 quadsport when I was 15! And I learned to ride the Kat 600 by teaching myself... So I am quite confident I can learn to handle the Busa. No, I will not be able to ride the bike to its full potential. I don't think I ever will. I value my life! I am going to ride it sensibly. I must admit that I also wanted the Busa because it's an ego thing. To know that you've got the baddest machine on the road is a feeling I've never had... and right now I've got that feeling! I know that it's all about knowing your limits. Hey, I would love to be able to be a master at doing sportbike tricks, etc... but I will never try any because I don't want to get injured or ruin the motorcycle. It's just not worth it. I can just enjoy watching others do all that.

But... yeah... I cannot wait to find a nice straight-away and just jack the throttle... NO! I won't be taking the Busa all the way... just to around 140 or so until I feel good with it.

I paid for the bike today and signed all of the paperwork, but I have to wait 3 days (monday june 19) to pick it up because they need to be sure my finance company check clears and they need to do a final service on the bike.

I can't wait until Monday! Oh... yes... I am a little nervous about riding it home. So...

Will someone please give me some inside info about the bike. Please tell me what I might need to look out for. Does it have any kind of "temper" I need to look out for? I plan on riding the bike slow and casual until I'm ready to let her rip. I'm excited to finally own a sportbike again... the best! But I'm a little nervous about my first ride, which will be a 45mile ride home through back roads and about 30 of those will be done on I-20 East in AL.

Thanks to anyone who replies and can give me some real pointers and info about how the bike rides so I can know what to expect. Or... am I being too nervous for no reason? If I just ride the bike "normally" and respect the power, will I do just fine?

Thanks again. And thanks for having this forum!

Peace

Congrats and welcome to the insanity! The Busa does have a temper, but only comes out if you don't respect it! Your right wrist is what will determine how well the 2 of you get along. If you haven't taken the Motorcycle Safety Course yet, I would recommend. Once you complete that do plenty of practice in an empty parking lot. The site is full of info that can't be put into 1 post, so get readin'! Again welcome and post pics as soon as you can.

Believe me... I will post pictures. I'm a professional photographer! haha!

Damnit, I'm excited! But what I'm really looking forward to is getting the Busa out to Los Angeles (moving back there in Nov)!

I've heard so many say don't get it if you're not an expert and so many say just get it and take it slow. So... I guess I just got it! I will take it slow. But, yes, I will respect the power. Because it's not only a power to go fast, it's a power to kill me.

Thanks for the reply, homie. Yeah. I said 'homie'! haha! I might be 34, but I don't look it (i still get carded for cigarettes).

I won't be doing any runs inside some test course... or a safety class. It's not that I don't think it's a good idea..... it's just that I cannot do it!!! IT costs way too much!!! In my area, they charge your left ball to accept you!!!.... hehehehe!!!!!

But, yeah, I'll be taking my black/gray 06 New (sucking it all in.............) Hayabusa down the streets in a "casual" manner.... for real!

I'm not gonna put the hammer down or even try to test the bike, because I know the bike will test ME more than I can test IT!!!!.....

No the monitors will come down on you for cursing.  We use words like fuggit, shid, arse, SOB, mudder-fugger, etc.  Still allows you to get your point across.

Oh, and welcome.  Just got my 06' maroon/black not even a week ago and got SF at $220.00 every 6 mo. (35 yrs. old).
You'll love it.

Very important here.  First thing when you get it home remove the reflectors and warning stickers on tank, swing arm and frame(hair dryer, plastic card and WD-40 or goo-off to remove the sticky stuff).  The two on the plastic inners should peel right off on their own.

Oh and don't forget the kickstand mod.  Use the search button located in the upper right for initial questions first.  Then if you get stuck you can post a question. Can't tell you how many times we get the same question over and over.  Start by posting the question, "Should I get a TRE?"  That will ruffle some feathers.

I need to post some pics of my bike and new carbon fiber helmet before I start hearing sh!t from everyone.

If I make a post on Monday night, it means I survived.....

I need to look into getting rid of the crap/fender located beneath the rear. I think it's called an under-tag or something! I do NOT know!!!!......

I just know that the stock rear fender looks like shi"d"!!!!!

hehe!!!!

I need to fix up the Busa ass! That is one modification I will be making!!!!

What kind of gear did you buy, or what gear are you using from the past - that is if you wear protective gear.

And welcome to the....insanity

Do a search for 'undertails' and you will be amazed at what you will find.

Congrats on the new busa and welcome to the site. You covered alot of ground on your intro. All I can add is make sure you ride with your gear, we have lost 3 riders here (Baton Rouge area) that I know of in a very short period of time. The street can be very unforgiving. As said before it's maturity, not age, that will help keep you right side up. Oh, and do the kickstand mod, or at least keep the bike in gear and rolled all the way forward until you do. Many new bikes have fallen due to that freakn stand.
Personally, I rode a street bike back in the uhumm, late 80's for about 3 years and then didn't get back on one until February of this year, the busa. I'm so glad I did't get another bike because I love everything about this machine. I will say that I went very slow and let myself get used to not only the busa but riding a bike on the street again (polish up that crystal ball). You will be fine, just take it slow and build up to your comfort zone.
As far as this site, you will not find a more helpful bunch of people anywhere. So search and read because you are in for the longest two days of your life...
Take Care

congrats, the bike handles really solid at high speeds so be aware that 140mph feels like cruising speed. of course if the Po-Po ever asks you how fast your were going you can just tell them "cruisin speed"

Welcome and +100 on the pics, when you can. You sound like you have a plan, but I have to echo BigBS on the safety course thing. For one, it could help to lower your insurance even more and two, well, it is just a good idea. Recommend you get (hopefully already have) good gear. Again welcome! Stay safe.

Welcome to the board!

 Congratulations on the new bike!

I'll echo other members who suggested taking the MSF BRC.  You won't regret it.

Always ride with your gear.

Another point that hasn't been mentioned yet..break-in.  Some members take the manufacturer's suggestion of keeping it under 4K (rpm's) until your first service (500-600 miles), then up to 8K until 1000 miles.  Others, recommend "ride it like you stole it" right out of the showroom.  It's up to you, though, if you are not used to the bike "ride it like you stole it" could get you in a pile of hurt quickly.

As to you question as to the "temper" of the bike, it is a very easy bike to ride.  The power is predictable.  As you turn the throttle you get more acceleration.  If you keep it under 5K it will seem powerful, but smooth.  Take it to 7 or 8K and it will get your attention pretty quickly.  Over 8K is a big adrenalin rush.  Having respect for a bike like yours is smart.

Again, congratulations on the bike and joining the ORG.

Ride safe.
