New "Part" Owner

Hey all, my name is Mike. I am from the Pittsburgh, PA area.

I don't own busa but I do own a bunch of busa parts. Currently in the process of transplanting a Busa front end on my '06 Vmax.

I have all the parts I need, just looking for a bit more knowledge before completing the work. I picked up a set of forks off a '08 Busa, front wheel, brake calipers with lines and master, lower triple, and a front fender from a '06 gixxer 600 from ebay.

I had a set of triple trees and fork extensions cut to complete the transplant.

I mocked it all up and everything seems great. Just working on getting the forks and trees hard anodized. I have rebuilt conventional street bike forks and some old style USD dirt bike forks but I am not too familiar with the Gen II Busa forks. Hoping I can find some info on this site on how to tear them down and remove the bushing so I can get them hard anodized soon.

I have talked with Jim at LE Engineering/Suspension a couple months ago about getting the forks dialed in with this setup. I guess they were getting ready to move shop, and Jim is no longer going to be doing the work so he had me talk with Ed about my project. Hoping to get the forks out to Ed in the next couple weeks to complete the suspension work so I can ride soon.

Here are a couple pics of my new triples and the front end mocked up on the vmax. Never mind the mess in the garage. I have been busy this winter!

:welcome: Vmax's are good bikes, but why the Frankenstein method? Just want something different from everything else?

Actually its not too uncommon to do on vmaxes. But in a sense, ya.

I wanted wheels. The rear rim on a vmax is 15" so you are stuck with bias ply tires. The front rim is a 18" and is very narrow so while you can mount a radial tire on it, you have limited options on good rubber.

I've been taking my time selling my OEM parts as I go along to help fund the replacement parts. The biggest ticket item is the custom triple. Followed by the revalve/respring.

I working on the other end as well. I had the swingarm extended and centered in the frame. That required a custom rear wheel (still being built) custom drive shaft, brake adaptors, caliper adaptors, etc... still waiting on a bunch of parts for the rear. That is why its not in the pics.

Hopefully it will be on the road by the end of next month. Still a long way to go though!

We have an excellent search feature, try looking for "fork rebuild" and you should get some good results.

:welcome: to the org. Going to be cool it looks like when you get it done.

:welcome: to the board...like twotonevert said, that is an interesting project :beerchug:

John Cornell of UFO Performance Rroducts makes a 17" & 18" replacement rear wheel for the V-Max. The absoloute best suspension performance mod to the mighty max is to get wheels on that beast that will accept radial tires, actually that's just the start, the list goes on and on. Check out John's site, he makes some amazing products for the V-Max. I used to always tell people "Yup she goes like a bat out of hell, just don't turn or stop to well"

Guess I'm dragging an old thread back to life. Figured I'd give you guys a little update. My front end conversion is 99% complete. The final step is to refinish the busa rim and mount a tire. I had the fork uppers polished and chromed by Meclec in CA. The forks were then sent off to LE Engineering to be rebuilt, revalved, and new springs. Still have a bunch of other stuff to do on the back half of the bike so I am doubting that I will get to ride it this season.

V-Max 2 Busa, thanks for the info on UFO. I am pretty familiar with them. I've spoke with Cornell a couple times via email regarding some parts. The V-Gas setup is definitely wicked looking, nice ride.
