Looks like you installed properly. One question. Are you sure the cables to the ground and the starter aren't reversed?
You can put the battery ground on the starter and the starter lead on the ground and it will make the starter spin BACKWARDS.....
It looks like the installation was done right. So answer this question - when you take the larger of the two silver round covers off, you can see the main bolt holding the starter clutch to the end of the crank: when you hit the button to crank over the motor, is this bolt turning, along with the main body of the starter clutch? If so, is it turning clockwise?
