I myself a newbie (1 month) but not to motorcycles. As a matter of fact, I tried my 1st bike at age 17 & was hooked. Now it's been over 40 years, 14 bikes later (CB750's, RD350/400, Choppers, Sporsters, Shovel Head, Fatboy, FXR's, Vmax & now Busa), 2 street rods, drove my wife crazy, now I am 66 years old & retired. I just completed building my Harley Police Special 1991, 2 years ago, has all the goodies but never satisfied, always wanted a Busa, bought a 2008 model, so I am now selling my FXR.
Did all my maintenance & repairs on all my bikes, 1st bike with so many electronics, which worries me, but its a Suzuki & hopefully repairs will be minimal. Wasn't too happy with doing an oil change, as had to remove the right side fairing, it took me about 3 hours but that included the cleaning part also, took my time, it was a good thing because it gave me time to see what the inside condition looked like. Was being real careful removing the fairing due to the rod on the top, however, whoever did the oil change previously wasn't aware of that plastic rod & broke it off, not happy with that. Working with plastics is a big change for me, however, the technology on pin clips holding fairings for a bike that goes 200MPH, amazes me. Got it for a decent price & it had only 8,100 miles.
Always wanted a Busa for years but never took the plunge, but now that I have and getting used to the riding position change with awesome acceleration (my FXR with nitrous didn't make me smile as much), I know I made the right decision. Even with my previous bilateral carpal tunnel surgeries, its not too bad on my wrists. Haven't worn a helmet in 40 years (no helmet law in Hawaii) got one, less wind noise, good in rainy conditions, not too bad as I thought it would be, only problem, trying to fit my glasses on after I put my helmet on. I have always been faithful to Harely's, however, I am really tired of fixing them, it doesn't matter if it sits or being ridden, or riding normal or doing crazy stuff, it requires more maintenance and more repairs, trust me, I know. Besides, no matter what engine mods, big incher you add to a Harley, it will never ever be as fun to ride or keep up with a Busa. Aloha & ride safe.
