The Cal guys can tell you, but the only thing I've really heard of is the checking of the Exhaust noise thingie out there. Seems the only legal exhaust cans that are legal in Kalofonia is the stock cans. But, I don't think anyone cares there

cool so as far as airbox mod and pairvalve mod and power commander remapping exhaust TRE just to start off i should be cool?

Some of the other guys might chime in here on your air box mod. I don't know what difference it would make, if any, if you keep the stock cans. But if you do make the air box and pairvalve mod. , you will need a map adjustment for sure. The TRE, yes, it will allow you to go inexcess of 186 (if that's what you want) !

I guess I would keep all my factory shid and a spare ECU. Do they test annually

No engine, exhaust, lighting or safety equipment modifications are allowed under the law. These laws are currently unenforced in any predictable manner. If your stopped for some moving violation you may get a "fix-it" ticket if your being an a$$hat but that's about it....for now.
Several dealerships (HD) have paid HUGE fines for selling aftermarket exhausts that do not meet CAL/EPA standards and have ceased selling them. Ditto for power commanders, although I hear there is a CAL compliant Power Commander either in the works or now available.
You do not currently need to get your bike "smog'd" for registration. This will change with the 2008 model year in California and.....drum roll please.....nationwide in 2010 as the Federal EPA rules come into effect.
This is the reason the 49 state bike is about to become extinct (Ducati has been 50 state since 98) and most new bikes are already Euro3 compliant.....3 phase catalytic converter and all. Happy motoring

To bad you don't live in Elbert County CO. No emissions and we do whatever we feel like. I passed a cop last week at over a 100mph and I got the hand signal to slow down. I must live in a good town podunk as it may be.

Like many Californians I'm not "from" here. I'm a native New Englander and have lived in all regions of the country (including Colorado Springs) except the upper Midwest. After 15 years here there are three things I can assure you of:
<ul>Death
<ul>Taxes
<ul>My NOT leaving California unless they throw me out. Its THAT good friends
