I'd have to say, its all going to depend on your wife. She will be the one that is riding it. If you think that she will be a fast learner and will want to continue to a bigger bike, I'd say just start at a 500. If you think that she will not want to ride a lot and will not pick up riding quick, stay with the 250. I know some adult guys that ride a 250. They're main complaint is the power. It will go fast. It just takes it awhile to get up to speed compared to 600+ cc's.
