Traffic Accident claims no lives .... Newcastle Oklahoma

The sirens wailed Saturday afternoon in Newcastle as onlookers watched emergency crews rush to the scene of a motorcycle accident on State Hwy 37 Chief Gary Norman tells the paper. On Sat at approximately 3:30 pm a Chevy pickup pulled out of Oriely's Automative parts store at 1212 NW 32nd street into the oncoming path of a black Suzuki hayabusa (the fastest known color Hayabusa made) piloted by the owner of the bike Doug King. Troopers on the scene say that King had 31 feet of skid mark and was able to shed some speed before he struck the drivers door of the truck in his path.  The impact completely dessimated the front of the Hayabusa and left a dent in the door of the truck approximately 18 inches deep. According to witnessess Kings head went through the drivers window striking the driver of the truck causing facial injuries to the driver 64 year old oklahoman. The drivers name was not available at presstime however the paper has learned that the man has been identified as the luckiest man in the world in that Kings wife was unable to find him on the scene of the accident.!!! Kings head left a large dent in the top of the drivers door just before he entered and struck the driver, momentum of his legs brought his body weight up and higher than the side of the truck with his feet 3 - 4 feet higher than the top of the pickup. Witness Bob Smith says that it was as gracefull as a fat guy could be who was flipping through the air. While the motion took just seconds King was seen sliding down the side of the truck hitting his head on the ground leaving a trail of blood down the side of the truck. As the motion stopped and the typical crash noises subsided the driver of the truck apparently dazed took his foor off the brake allowing the truck to roll forward 20 - 30 feet. John Jacobs told this reporter that the motorcycle was standing up embedded into the truck befiore it started to roll and one the truck moved the bike fell over and landed on King. Onlookers, other motorist and customrs at all of the local shops ran out to offer assistance to King laying on the ground in a pool of blood. Kings father and oldest son who were both riding 4 car lengths behind pulled to a quick stop to check on their father and son respectively. The King men offered aid to King who had been in the accident until trained staff arrived. Emergency crews quickly arrived on the scene and called medi flight when they arrived because of the potential for injury and damage to the vehicles. According to medic 1 from the rescue squad all were amazed when they realized that King was conscous and in one piece. " He looked like a power ranger with all that gear on" said medic 2 of the rescue squad. He was covered in blood but able to speak and advise of his injuries. Medi flight was cancelled. King was transported to the Norman hospital where ER staff worked to evaluate King and verify that he indeed was involved in an accident and that he has survived. ER docs were amazed at the potential injury and how King had no broken bones and what appeared to be all soft tissue injuries. King was kept for observation for 24 hours and released to his supportive waiting family of 15,000 who were waiting at the door of the hospital holding a prayer meeting for him to recover. Kings personal Angel that was assigned to him on his 16th birthday was quoted as saying in the ER break room "Doug helped us out on this one by wearing his gear, I've lost a few feathers from my wings over the years taking the hits for him, on this one he helped hmself. The Oklahoman would like to let everyone know that there will not be a funeral and viewing of the body will not be necessary because DOUG KING still lives on this earth............

Guys I had this dream tonight, its 4 am and Im typing this to you.... Call it my close encounter with death for my adult years whatever you want... you all know that I have been posting up all of the crashes from the past few months beggin everyone to wear their gear..... I took my own advice and I am living proof that gear saves lives..... No doubt about it.... Life jumped right out there on Sat in my path... nothing I could do about that... However I did have the choice to wear my helmet, gloves, ARMORED jacket and boots.... and I type here tonight because of it........ PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE gear up, not just a helmet, I firmly believe that my armored jacket saved my life from penetrating injuries and blunt force trauma... You would have to see the gear to believe it...........

Thank you for the calls, the emails, PM's and prayers, you all are closer now than ever before.......

God Bless you all.....

I Live to tell this story..........

All kidding aside, besides the fastest color statement, glad the prayers have been answered.  Mine was one of them.  Any crash you can walk out of the ER from is a good one.  Much Love.

Doug glad you are OK Sir and I am With you this is an excellent example of why everyone needs to wear gear.  A guy and myself were just talking about this the other day you know what the first words out of a cagers mouth are when they hit a Motorcycle rider "I DID NOT SEE HIM"  that is the reason why we must always wear our gear not to mention the words of the one story I read on the board a while back were the son told his dad to wear his gear.  For most of us this is one more reason to wear our gear.  Wear your gear for yourself and your family guys.  LIVE TO RIDE RIDE TO LIVE is a saying that rings true.  Again Doug glad you are ok you feel beat up now but that is OK you are still alive. A little bit of advice if I may though go get all your after market parts that are still good because the insurance will not PAY YOU FOR THEM (ie throttlemeisters, RoadLoK and any others).

theres a higher power thats watching over you capt. thankfully to him your alive and still kicking.

Good read Doug.... I see the humorist in you still lives!
This is the side I've come to know and enjoy. Glad and thankfull that your ticket wasn't pulled. Yes, your gear was one of the many factors in your survival. But, I'm also giving thanks to our Heavenly Father for watching over you in that instant.......... Ks

Not to mention, you wear your gear and if you do have an accident, you can likely get back in the saddle much sooner.

Words of wisdom there, Doug. Words of wisdom.

Great write-up Doug...I'm certain the pain meds had nothing to do with the vivid dreams

I believe you know exactly how fortunate you are having worn the gear. We'd all be having much different conversations had you not

Hopefully others reading will learn from this. I know I've changed my thinking when I ride because of stories shared by members here on this site...

And how fortunate the driver of the Chevy is!

Loved the side bar about the wife not finding him...

Doug, after hearing the account and seeing the pics, it's a miracle that your weren't hurt any worse. Thank God you took your own advice and wore your gear!

Heal up quickly, my brudda!

Glad to hear that you are OK Cap.

Hope you are back to 100% in no time.

Doug,

I can relate to your story, and I can tell you that your gear will save you from life threatening injuries. About 3 years ago coming back from Arizona on I10 near Ft Stockton, the unexpected happened to me. A deer came out of nowhere onto the freeway and I hit him at 65mph.

I was in full leathers, helmet, and a back protector, after rolling and sliding for about 20 feet, I sat up and checked myself for any signs of pain or broken limbs, at that time a passing car stopped and called emergency services.

At the hospital they did xrays, mri's, and ultrasound for any internal injuries. They did not find no injuries, or broken bones and the doctors were amazed that I only had a minor scratch on my elbow from were the armor rubbed when I was sliding.

I have always been an advocate of gear, and yes it may cost alot but it will save you as it did me.

Glad to see that you are ok, and I am with you about the importance of wearing your gear.

Lots of epsom salt in your bath for about a week and the soreness will subside.

Godspeed Cap and welcome back.
