Obama, Lipstick on a pig comment

I've gotta say that Obama's comments about "lipstick on a pig" has been taken way out of context, and I agree with something Bill O'Reilly said last night on his show...McCain's camp should have taken this opportunity to have Palin release a statement saying "this isn't an issue, Obama wasn't targeting me, so let's get on with issues that matter"...

The media's blowing this one way out of proportion...find a sticking point that is TRUE and go with that, not something as silly as this...

Just my :2cents:

so you think it is fair to tax one group and not another?? That is class warfare and redistirbution of wages, that is as socialist as it gets. What ever happened to being rewarded for hard work?

As for the 700billion a year, that is part of what we send overseas every year now to various countries, it has gone on and on and on through several presidents. McCain has said he will stop that. Obama has not addressed it and according to some plans of his I have heard it sounds like he will increase
it.

As for dems in his cabinet, doesn't bother me a bit, I was just addressing your statement that McCain had no good ideas, so now you are telling me that having democrats in his cabinet would be good policy? So you were not accurate when you said McCain had no good policy ideas??

These points are issues, you would have a hard time calling them emotional media BS as the media doesn't seem to be covering any of these points.

As for taxes. You know I would be all in favor of a flat tax based, everyone pays the same % of their income. How is cutting taxes for 95% of wage owners while raising taxes on the wealthiest 5% "Class Warfare" it simply balances and corrects the unfair tax practices that started with Reagan and continue until today. It will provide more for those who have less. If they have more they will spend more thus boosting the economy.

So the 700 billion is a current republican ideal and, it is not fair to pin that on the democratic candidate.

Are you actually saying that putting democrats in you cabnit is some great idea? Please try harder. I want either president to pick the best minds possible for their cabnet. I guess that would be a new idea for a republican president.

.

Aid has been sent overseas by many a president both democrat and republican, McCain just happens to be the only one who has ever come out and stated is needs to stop.

As for the Robin Hood tactics, steal from the rich and give to the poor, I may not be rich but I sure don't want a handout from someone who is and if I get a good break and happen to WORK myself to a point where I am considered rich I sure don't want someone in government taking the fruits of my labors from me at a higher rate than anyone else.

Go back and study the tax code, the rich already pay more taxes, the more you make the higher your tax bracket becomes. The problem is too many politicians have created loopholes and shelters for people with money. Go do some research on Ted Kennedy and see how much he pays in taxes then tell me the dems are looking out for the poor.

Where exactly does McCain address foreign spending? I looked on his website and I could not find it. Please point me in that direction.

Of course they pay more...they make more...the government provides the tax breaks and shelters and loopholes you pointed out. Like I said I am all for revamping the tax code and making a flat tax, no loopholes no deductions nothing simply x% of your annual income goes to taxes. It is easy to simplify it in using trems like "Robin Hood" and "Class Warfare" but the reality is that the goverment manuiplates the economics of the country. The Wealthiest 5% have been living off of the labor of the bottom 95% while being given tax breaks. All the while wages for average American have fallen. How is this fair? It is not based on how hard you work or how much work you do? I think you would agree that th eaverage guy works hard to feed his or her family and puts in a solid amount of weekly hours, yet their wages have declined compared to the wealthiest 5%. Is that not class warfare against the poor?

that's one good look'n pig

Democrats as part of the cabnet is hardly a policy idea.

Taken directly from the transcript of McCain's speech at the RNC.

"My fellow Americans, when I'm president, we're going to embark on the most ambitious national project in decades. We are going to stop sending $700 billion a year to countries that don't like us very much. We will attack the problem on every front. We will produce more energy at home. We will drill new wells offshore, and we'll drill them now. We will build more nuclear power plants. We will develop clean coal technology. We will increase the use of wind, tide, solar and natural gas. We will encourage the development and use of flex-fuel, hybrid and electric automobiles. "

Which is better, print it on your website for some to read or say it in one of the most watched speeches of the campaign??

I would say that talk is cheap and making it part of your platform by defining where you stand on the issue is better. That way you can be held accountable. Unless you are pandering to the ignorant masses.

I agree talk is cheap. I also happen to be from Illinois where I have seen Obama's speeches to get elected to the US Senate where he provided plenty of lip service. I've seen promises made to the citizens of Illinois that Obama never lived up to. What has he done for our state since elected?? Nothing, all he has done since being elected is run for a higher office. Dont take that approach with me, I've seen Obama before and after an election, I'm familiar with the state politics Obama was involved in before getting elected to the US Senate. I've seen how much Obama got accomplished with a democrat controlled state house and senate as well as a democrat governor. For these reasons I will NEVER vote for Obama.

Now you are speaking with reason. I can see your point based upon your time in Il. It doesn't necessarly change my point of view because all McCain has done is vote with the popular majority 90% of the time.

at least McCain has voted and we know what to expect. How many times has Obama voted "present" so that he did not have to make a decision that he could be held accountable for.

A true leader is one that can make a tough decision.

As for IL, where was Obama when Gov. Blagojevich was raiding millions of dollars from pension funds. Where was Obama when the state of Illinois allowed Ameren to increase electric rates? I have neighbors whose bills increased by more than 100%, yes they more than doubled. He was in office, yet these things still happened. Why is the state of Illinois bankrupt today? The democrats have control of the governors office, the state house and the state senate, no republicans around to blame this one on. Why did the democrat governor from IL not get invited to speak at the DNC? Could it be because he is under federal investigation for corruption and wrongdoing? What do they all have in common? It's called the Chicago political machine, do some research on it. Do some research on the Illinois economy and ask yourself, is this what the whole country needs.

I could go on and on but will cut it at that. I know what the country gets if they elect Obama.

I can't speak to those issues but the are siginificant and I wish they were brought up because I would like to see some answers.

I couldn't agree with you more, his statement wasn't aimed at Palin. They need to stick to the issues at hand, and quit acting like kids at recess.

That's why all I'm waiting for are the debates which is what we really need to pay attention too. I could care less for the childish attacks between them and the media spinning things.

I read the whole thing but all I really needed to do is read the first couple lines.

This article is an Op-Ed piece.

OF COURSE it is not supply-side economics. That is because supply side economics doesn't work. The crappy state of the economy should be evidence enough. Obama wants to put money in the hands of people who will spend it on consumer goods or education or to buy homes. Things that actually help the economy grow. Reagan provided huge tax cuts to the wealthiest segment of society while increasing Social Security and Medicare. This really hurt the working poor and middle class. He believed in supply side economics and it just has not proven to work.

Sorry if you feel that the most fortunate 5%, or as one poster put it "the most productive" (I wonder if teachers, firemen and other public servants fee like they are not productive) are being treated unfairly, but in truth they have been given tax breaks at the expense of the middle and lower class and look what it has done to the economy.

I don't expect you to understand because you are so poisoned by the FOX news attitude of hatred toward the poor or simply a belief that they are poor because they choose to be. The funny thing is that you are the one who is being taken advantage of by the very wealthy while they are telling you how great you are. Unless you are in the top 5% of incomes chances are you will benefit way more from Obama’s plan. If not directly then indirectly due to the greater productivity brought about by a healthier more educated public.

First off I'm not sure what tax breaks you are speaking of but I assume this is a bash on President Bush's tax cuts. If so I happen to have a CPA in the family who has explained these tax cuts to me. The Bush tax cuts gave larger cuts to the poor than anyone else. So how do you figure it was at their expense. Please explain so that I might understand.

So now because Fox news is a bit more balanced without the liberal spin they are poison?? Please give me a break. This top 5% idea is nothing more than a Robin Hood socialist plan to steal from those who have worked for something and give that to those who are not willing to work for anything. You are in favor of this yet you say you would also favor a flat tax. A flat tax would be even more unfair to the poor than the current progressive tax where you pay more if you make more. The real problem is all the loopholes that have been created by the politicians for themselves and their buddies, democrats and republicans both.
