I would not complain about 1 ticket, 2 is out of line and it wasn't like we were out laying on the beach either. We were spending money.
Is it even worth whining about? The only thing that matters is you pay for the time you are parked. You didn't. You admitted so in your letter. You got caught. Pay the fine.
How do they know that you two parked there together? Why do they care? You were both parked in a space that wasn't paid for. Both guilty. Now if you were the registered owner of both? ? ?
If parking is that much in demand do you really think threatening the Mayor with not returning is going to be effective? They have more customers than they can serve. If they were hurting to bring people in, parking would be free.
Buy extra time or look at a clock and go back and add time. The simple economics of it is; it is always cheaper to pay for the time, than the fine plus the time.
If you don't live in the City, your taxes aren't going to their road construction and maintenance, but you are contributing to their wear and tear. Plus your using their Public Works, sidewalks, street lights, bathrooms, drinking fountains, boardwalk etc.
It's possible that there is a local sales tax. You could argue that the products and services you consume have indirect taxes built in to their prices. In either case you are getting some value back, because the City is creating and maintaining an environment that you are atrracted to and want to visit.
Now, if your riding around in circles for and hour to park and every space in filled with a vehicle that has an expired meter, then you have a valid complaint, worthy of a letter to the Mayor. Address it to Dear Sir or Mayor. Addressing it to Rick is a Fail!
