Oil preferences

Ok, so I'm finally starting to put my bike back together (funds are becoming available finally). I'm replacing the stator cover with a Woodcraft that I got that has the skid plate to help protect from any other future incidents. I'm assuming I'm going to have to refill my bike since its been very very slowly leaking over time. I don't have my manual handy unfortunately so I was wondering what oil it takes, and since I've got it apart I'm going to change the engine oil. What does everyone recommend? One of these days I'm going to be knowledgeable I swear!

Oh, and to anyone reading this post, I found out recently that I'm PCS'ing to White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico! I'll be leaving sometime in October probably. I'll post this in general too so maybe I can meet and greet some of you awesome folks!

3in1...full synth of course!

The search function may help and no matter what any (one) rider suggests, another will say something else. ANY motorcycle specific 10/40 engine oil will work. I've never heard of an oil related engine failure when there was a proper amount of clean oil in it and the filter wasn't clogged. My preference happens to be full synthetic Amsoil. To qualify my preference I can say that I run Amsoil in my 27 year old air cooled six cylinder CBX that has 93,000 miles on it without a teardown. Runs cooler, shifts smoother.

I agree, I haven't heard of engine failure due to oil brand either, it's personal preference. I use Mobil 1 4T Race because it's the best.

Mobil 1

This is all you need - Full Synthetic. Get a whole gallon at Wal-Mart for about $16-17 vs the $40-50 you'll pay for other stuff.

I just switched from Amsoil to Rotella T. My wallet is liking me again.

I've had guys tell me they have been running this in their Busas for 10s of 1,000s of miles and no problems. It meets all the requirements called upon by Suzuki, the newer stuff (as pictured) has a lower ash content to meet the requirements.

I use Amsoil. But for the synthetic users the question is:
How many miles do you go till next oil change with sythetic? I go 3k mi.

I only go about 3500 due to alot of my riding being short trips (less than 2 miles) to work and back, I ride everyday:thumbsup:. which incidentally the 3500 miles also makes me due for a new rear tire. so I change oil the same time I change tires.:banghead:

edit: I also run amsoil, go to thier website, pay the $20 for a year of being a prefferred customer and buy at a discount, and get it shipped right to you door. you will save more than the 20 on the first case you buy.
