o.k. i was overlooking my 01 w/ 25,000 miles on her and no mechanical mod's done to the bike, and bent down to look at the site glass to find a white residue mixed in w/ the oil. my guess, fuel but i'm not for certain. any help would be appreciated.

If its just a bit of it, its proly moisture. If your oil looks like a Wendy's Frostie then you have a problem. Has She been sitting up all winter where the temps have been fluctuating?

i also failed to mention that my last oil change was right before winter which i know is a "no,no". could this be the cause of water in the oil and would this cause any damage to the motor?

I would think an oil change would solve the problem. Seem's to me another member had the same issue and a oil change cleaned it right up.

yeah, i might just have to do that. thanks!

I would just go out and put an hour or so ride on it... that should clean out any moisture in the oil... pretty normal stuff..

They tell me on my boat and all of the things I store for the summer or winter you want to change the oil before storage so the oil with the acid in it isn't setting on bearing and other thing just what i have been told

Didn't happen to over fill it during the last Change?

Over filling can cause a frothy mess.

no, i'm usually pretty good about filling just to the 1/2 way mark. i just ran it for few minutes and it cleared up. i have been riding off and on since the middle of march and i haven't had any mechanical problems that i am aware of. i'll keep a sharp eye out for it again and grab a pic.

It's probably condensation. Change the oil & filter, if the oil you drain looks like oil, your OK. Fresh oil & filter, go ride it.

That moisture is perfectly normal.. and is also why short trips are so hard on motors.. they oil never gets hot enough to "self" clean.. it really is nothing to worry about..

Now if you got home after riding the better part of the day and it was "milky" time to get "real excited"

(but the bike would be more than likely overheating)

i just checked the glass this morning and it looks good, no residue. i'll assume it was condensation from sitting all winter. thanks to all!
