Ok , there will be no definitive answer to this question just opinions. My bike is used strickly for drag racing no street use. Mabey 75 miles in a season. So how offten should the oil be changed? I"m thinking at the end of the race season, or when ever a clutch goes up in smoke. So only making one change a year, I should pay the extra bucks and use royal purple. what do yall think?

I would change a bit more often...but that's just me. I guess it kinda depends on how many passes you make each race day. Same holds true for synthetic or not...rough service would indicate more value in synthetic. Might also pick up an extra tenth too!

You will be changing your clutch a little more often next year, I go thru at least 2 a season. I say get the best oil you can. I run Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec. I hot lap my bike a lot, and synthetic doesn't break down as quickly.

I opened this thread for pure entertainment!

but now that I'm here! please explain how he would pick up 1/10th by using "better" oil?

They say your oil should be changed every 3000 liles or 3 months. Whichever comes first. Even if your vehicle sits for the 3 months, it can have the same break down as going 3000 miles.

It's "Marketing" bro read the owners manual for your bike, car, or truck...the 3 months or 3,000 miles thing is BS. All of those companies are just trying to sell you more oil.

I would do it more than once a season

I got that part, but it's always cheaper to do good maint. than to replace parts. Motors today can go longer between oil changes. Todays oil is better also. The better the oil, the better the additives(which is what breaks down) Just being a drag bike, I would think he'd want better protection cause even with the best oil, high engine temps will cause the oil to break down quicker than normal riding.

As for my comment above, hope you guys don't think I'm an azz over it, just trying to go along with the joking:laugh:

Not to jack Dragons thread, but have you ever seen an oil filter after not being changed for 20,??? miles? Chick at work did this. The oil came out like molasses and it had the type of filter that you unscrew a cap and it has the paper filter inside. Filter broke in half and the oil that was around it was so gummy I don't see how the engine didn't lock up.

+24987 on changing it a couple more times than once a year...I dont race my '06 LE and with 3800 miles it has had the oil changed about 10 x's all royal purple and OEM filter.

when I was racing cars the oil was changed every weekend...raced 3 nights/week.

It's a personal preference and how much you value a power plant...a good mechanic can tell a lot about a motor when you drain the fluids
