Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 is designed for sport bikes. Most of these bikes have multi-cylinder/multi-valve engines and use a common sump, which means the engine oil lubricates the engine, transmission and wet clutch. So unlike Mobil 1 for cars, Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 has no friction modifiers, which could lead to clutch slippage.

The motorcycle oil also has more phosphorus/zinc for enhanced wear protection at high engine speeds and high loads.

In addition, Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 has a high performance dispersant/detergent technology for better high-temperature performance and engine cleanliness. Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 is also offered in a different viscosity grade than Mobil 1 for passenger cars. (Updated December 2007)

I'll change both every 1000 miles.

A rather huge waste of time/money, however, it's your bike to maintain as you please.

However, today's modern oils are so good, there is little need from a maintenance perspective to have such an abbreviated change interval for a street-only machine.

Though I understand there may be other driving factors involved, such as emotion, obsession, etc.

and the great oil debate rages on...

the regular ol' stuff has/is used in the fastest LSR turbo sit-on bikes. no clutch issues or anything else oil related... I'm not saying this as a recommendation but just as an FYI. Of course there may be "better" oils.

Tommy, Sorry I didn't see your post until today. I double checked our Wal Mart here in Victoria Tx, it's a 5qt jug of Mobil 1 red cap 15w50. Heluva deal considering my busa with turbo holds a little over 3.5 quarts.

The original topic is , what oil for a +450 hp 2008 Turbocharged Hayabusa .

It might well be that 1000 miles is not often enough , depending on usage , the tune up and more .

Warchild you obviously have no knowledge on turbo damage to oil. Most of the info you provide this board is good stuff. Stay off the turbo section until your knowledge is a little bettor in this area. Obsessive, maybe but when I have $30k in my bike a little "emotional obsession" is justified. Just for your own knowledge most turbo system builders suggest oil changes at the track every 2-5 passes. On the street as mine will be driven every 200-400 miles.

Have built several car and bike motors over the years and seen several so called (tests) synthetic or non synthetic is personal preferance I have used both, if the oil is changed at proper intervals not recamended but (proper) wheather it be 300 miles or 3000 if your bike craps up the oil sooner tham others you need to change it more often. some bikes have minor clutch issues without motorcycle specific oil some dont, because of friction modifier additives in the automotive oil. also race engines need the oil changed every race or in a drag race aplication at least one with heavy boost it will need changeing maybe every other pass, because of oil contamination. another reason that the expense of the synthetic oil is questionable

When riding two up that cheap oil wears off too quick and makes my tire wear funny . Thats what my mechanic told me .

i use Mobile 1 as well. Be careful about what car oil you use. Most of the car oils will harm your clutches. Mobile 1 does not harm your clutches.

Would you go 10-40 or 15-50. I'm for sure going synthetic, but I'm torn on the weight. 450hp turbo bike here fellows. Street driven only.
