I know I said I was gonna keep the 10 stock except for a damper and windscreen, but that stock Kawi aluminum sleeved can was killin' me. It was the only think that just fuggin' stuck out on the bike and said, "I don't belong...". Just had to go...
I looked at some slip-on systems and bolt on cans to replace the stocker with and decided that the Akrapovic carbon fiber can woulc look the sweetest on the black bike. Seein' Rev's pics of Lilah with them black carbon Akra's and some pics sent to me by the 10R forum guys sealed the deal. I wanted titanium to begin with, but after seein' the black cans on the black bikes I just couldn't go with anything else. The carbon can still has sweet lookin' titanium end caps and trim. My only wish would be to have a matte finish titanium midpipe that matched the Akra end caps. Now that would be perfect!
Dropped prolly 2-3 pounds in the swap and gained tons of points in the looks department. As for sound, the idle is a bit deeper. Also sounds just a bit louder and deeper when I blip the throttle a little. I don't race my engine in neutral and haven't taken 'er out for a ride with the Akra yet, but so far I'm likin' the slight change in sound.
As for power gains, Ivan @ Ivan's Performance claims that the Akra carbon slip-on is worth +/- 3hp without a PC. Didn't care about performance gains though. As long as I don't lose any, I'm good to go. That's why I went ahead and went with a slip-on instead of a full system. What I read on Akra's site and liked was that the 10 dyno'd with a little more torque in the midrange with the carbon slip-on. The 10 ain't really a slouch down low, but it wouldn't hurt it to have a bit more either.
Anyway, first impressions of the Akra are excellent. Looks like top notch materials, workmanship, fit, and finish. Installation was a snap. Everything needed (except the tools and the Ultra Copper, which prolly wasn't technically "needed"...) was included with the system. The clamp that holds the mid pipe to the collector was a very nice quality clamp. I couldn't find anywhere that made it look like any corners were cut in the makin' of this system. I'm 110% pleased with it at this point. Akra exhaust definitely seems to be worth the $$$.
And now for the pics... I didn't do step by step shots. Didn't figure ya'll would really care.
Here's the final product though...
For comparison purposes...
Before...
After...
Also done my fourth mod today... I cut the rear fender to remove that hideous "tail" that holds the rearmost reflector. I think the stock 10 "fender" actually looked worse than the stock busa dumptruck mud flap.
Next mod... clear, flush mount front signals.
