I don't understand the 2 wheel on one side and 1 on the other. Is it so you can roll it to the bike while its leaning and just pick it up ? Or do you need to stand the bike straight first?

You cannot lower the bar easily if you have two wheels on BOTH sides. Having only one wheel makes it easier to puch the bar down. This moves the wheel forward therefore lifting up the left rear of the bike before the right rear falls into the holding pin.
If both sides had two wheels...you would need serious back and ab muscles to get the job done.
