One Foot Off The Farm!

The F-117 was angular because the computer technology of the time was not able to analyze the curves for radar reflections. The F-22 and F-35 are angular, just less brutal than earlier stealth efforts. My point was that people associate this with speed and advanced tech. Like I said fashion. If more manufacturers had picked up on the aerodynamically driven aesthetics of the Busa, it would be less polarizing. That's all I was saying.

I said waiting on a quote, he he he. Once I know how much the KTM I want will cost I can decide if it's the way I want to go. Looks like its going to be steep though.

I’ve seen that Duke GT and it’s pretty nice. What about that new Kawasaki H2 touring? Should be right around the same price range as the KTM. Maybe a little more room?? Idk? What about the BMW Bagger didn’t you like? You say your gonna hang onto the Busa so what will be the purpose of the new bike? You looking to tour or daily commute?

Well the H2 doesn't make sense to me. It seems like someone asked what are we going to do with this platform at Kawasaki and they figured lets put saddle bags on it. The Bagger is pretty sexy really. I liked it much more than I expected. But I don't know if it makes sense over the GT (same bike with a full fairing). The BMW is pretty high on the list because it would make a more logical stable mate for the Busa. I started looking for another bike to get more travel range, maybe cross country actually.

But the KTM is just really interesting. From when the CEO of KTM said no more sport bikes (we thought he was scared, turns out he had a better idea), to their GP success, to amazingly good technology from a little Austrian company that could. The 1290 is a lot like the Busa was 20 years ago. There were fast bikes but Suzuki put a bike on the streets that was on another level than the competition, not just fast. This KTM is comfortable, as fast as most sport bikes on the track, is fun, makes sense for touring, and uses electronics to be uncrashable according to reviewers.

I realize I'm not a young guy and it's time to retire to a Big BMW with the Busa to take the occasional hoon. But the KTM is talking to what I love about bikes.

Have you sat on and rode the BMW??? My dad was set on buying a BMW we went to buy it and test drive it and went and bought another gold wing.

Idk Arch? I’ll be honest with you if touring and cross country trips are on your horizon not sure that’s the bike I would choose to do it on?

Bike looks great but my concerns are the Ergos and luggage capacity. Bike looks a little cramped for a cross country 8Hr+ day ride. No way to stretch out legs and has an aggressive riding position with minimal windshield.

May not be as sexy but much more touring friendly ergos. Nice windshield full sized bags. More relaxed forward stretched out leg position. Probably bigger fuel tank as well which means less frequent stops

Sounds like what you really need and want is nice convertible, lots of room for your stuff, confortable , all the safety stuff, your hair in the wind, and a top if it rains, plus heat and air. You still have the busa if you ever want to ride again

I suppose a consideration is the type of roads your gonna travel on, if its mind numbing interstates or highways (whatever you call them over your way) then the saggy bagger would be the go. If you have minimal straight roads with more corners then its gotta be a KTM.

Yes I know. But you're being rational.........

I ride twisty back roads mostly. Not the BMW's thing so much although it is more capable than you might think. If I went BMW I would still put a lot of miles on the Busa. With the KTM I'll either like it and only occasionally ride the Busa or not like it and it will be sold in a year.

I just don't get into cars. Would consider a truck, but sporting is done on 2 wheels.

I have ridden both the Goldwing and the BMW, though only briefly. The Goldwing is definitely a mile muncher. BMW feels more bike-like if that makes any sense.

Yes makes total sense... a lot of Harley guys have tried out a gold wing and didn’t like it. Said it didn’t have a soul. Went back to a Harley even tho it had less power and accessories because it felt like they were riding a motorcycle. The Goldwings are the epitome of “Vanilla” when it comes to motorcycles.

Prior to getting my Harley I never would’ve believed that sometimes less is more...... Cant always go by what a dyno sheet tells you or what bells & whistles a bike has. Sometimes you just gotta put your ass in the seat and rack up some miles. If it feels great and you are enjoying ride then who gives a fuq what it has or doesn’t have?

I just don’t see the practicality of buying a Duke GT for touring? Small bags small tank and tight Ergos...... Daily commuter hell yes! Weekend getaway perhaps. Cross country Iron Butt challenge....??? Don’t think so. It’s pretty much the same as the Busa far as function goes. Why not diversify you bikes? Get a Bagger or an Adventure bike.... now you got options depending on the ride you wanna take?

Will you shut up! You are making sense and I don't need that while I'm trying to waste $20K! Gees you would think we were married or something! Lol! Honestly now that I'm cooling down from feeling the KTM I'm starting to get in line with what you're putting down 1 Busa.

PS: Thinking get the BMW now as my retirement bike, then maybe trade the busa on a Gen 3 if it's good next year. I think at some point I'll need a less aggressive bike even if I buy the KTM now.

:D

Just trying to help you broaden your motorcycle horizons :beerchug:

Makes no sense to buy a mustang when you got a camero In the garage.... Why not buy an SUV or pickup truck!!!

All jokes aside you seriously need to go test ride a New Harley Bagger or even an Indian Darkhorse Bagger. Compare them to the BMW. All pretty much in the same price range so you might as well get some perspective

I rode HD's and Victory bikes when I was considering a new bike a few years ago. I get the feel of simplicity in these bikes, maybe purity is a better word? But I am also a tech geek and I am always drawn to higher technology. An HD and a BMW are very different approaches to the same goal of covering miles in comfort. I'll ride another HD before I buy, but I'm really in a BMW mindset on touring bikes.

those are some huge bikes! I was up on tippy toes to touch the ground. But they are proven performers. i was looking at the 1200 vs the 1600 not sure the extra $$$ is justified???? (saving some dough for a gen 3)

True they are some big bikes but that engine and chasis are proven! You could totally tour on this bike no problem. Hell you could ride this thing to Alaska and back if you wanted. Ground clearance and inclimate weather would never be a deterrent.....
