Part sale problem...is it just me? Opinions??

I just received a Power Commander III USB that I bought off an unnamed and probably not a regular member of this board. I recieved it and hooked it up no prob...but when I looked in the rest of the box there was no USB cord, 9V battery adaptor, expansion port or USB covers. I wrote back asking him if he could find them and send them over, especially the 9V battery adaptor. He apologized and send he would send them over. He wrote back a few days later saying he couldn't find them and that I could probably buy the parts cheaply elsewhere. I went to the Dynojet site and ordered all the missing parts, sent him an email with the receipt. With shipping the parts came to about $30. I asked him how he wanted to go about this. He replied "sorry i dont want to seem like im ripping u off its just that i never said that in my ad and the price u got it for was very reasonable. $180 vs $350 for brand new."

I'm ticked, because I feel that when you buy an item that comes with different parts you should receive everything, just like him when he bought it new. It's no the $30, big deal, it's the principle...Is it me or what?

You should receive everything needed for item to function, or else it should be stated in the add that parts are missing.

Sellers should state exactly what they are selling, but we all know not everyone abides by the "truth in advertising".

Buyers should always beware and ask questions as to whether all the parts need for the object to function are included.

Consider this a lesson learned so in the future you wont be having to make up a larger sum of money.

I agree, should have stated in the ad that parts will need to be bought.. If he has character than he should at least cover the parts or meet you half way..

I always ask for extra pics so i know what I'm getting.. Who knows nowadays:whistle:

Missing parts should have been listed, or an inventory of parts should have been listed. Either way, you should have known what you were going to receive based on the ad.

If I were the seller, I would have refunded you $30 and tried to make it right.

at least you were able to get the parts fairly inexpensively...should have disclosed it though

Caveat emptor (let the buyer beware)...

Never assume anything and clarify everything. I went through a similar process from another low post count two year member here. Spent a fair sum on a set of plastics, tank, etc. that were supposed to be complete and good condition, nothing wrong, just needs paint, etc. Wound up with half of what I was promised, damaged plastics, and rusty tank. If I had not gone through PayPal and my credit card company had yet to drop their 'protest charges policy' (like they are all doing anymore), I would have never got my money back.

Sorry to hear about your experience and I don't want to sound cold but you got off pretty easy just spending the 210 total you spent. Count it as tuition towards your 'school of purchasing' class and carry on.

'When all else fails, that's a sure sign there must have been a human involved.'

I agree that I am lucky that it is really only a minor issue for a few spare parts that don't really cost a lot. I am just surprised that the seller won't step up and at least offer to pay half based on principle and honesty. But it doesn't surprise me that much because his email starts with "ninjarida***"

That is no more respectable than him not disclosing missing parts to you.

this summs it up well.

From the Org.'s standpoint, Admin's/CAp specifically, could you guys lock the option for posting a classified ad unless you had a minimum post count?

I have to say I have passed on a few items simply because the guy had a really recent join date or a super low post count. At least it would give you the ability to do a little homework on your "dance partner" until your items arrive.

If a dude has a 200 post minimum, I could read up on what he says, what he does, particular riding style, where he's at, nice guy/a-hole (not to be confused with Acehole:laugh:) etc. If he's got 3 posts and has a super deal, there are quite a few Busa forums (or so I've heard...I haven't had a need to drift from the Org ), a person could potentially create a new account on 3 or 4 boards, post the same item for sale on each and never come through.

I know people walk away from the Org for whatever reason, but I feel I have friends here and would not feel right if the jury of my peers here thought I gave someone the shaft on a deal that I thought was good. I would look to buy from someone that felt the same way.

Sort of related, I had/have a problem with my computer, Google searches take me to various computer related forums. Several of them would not allow me to see hyperlinks to sites mentioned in the posts because I was not a registered member. That seems too restrictive, but a minimum post count for posting ads would give a little more buyer confidence.

I wouldn't think it was a big deal for 30 bucks... since u saved so much. He should've noted it though but if the ad did not state I would've asked to make sure it came with everything

I'm mixed on this one. The missing parts does not make the PC worthless, it still works on your bike. Granted you are not able to remap handily from your computer without the cable and 9V adapter.

I'd have to see the ad. I usually go by if it doesn't say it's included (and it's not absolutely required to function) then it's not.

However, the response to you of 'tough' is pretty sad...

I agree it is far from worthless, but I cannot program the PC without the 9V Battery adapter because I have to update the old firmware on it first and the bike can't be running when I do that. I need a USB cable to hook the PC to my laptop. And the two missing port covers keep the wet and dust out of the ports. So no, it is not useless but not far from it. Here is the ad:"in good condition power commander USB. for 02-07's." There is no mention the parts come with it but the there is no mention they don't either and if you are going to sell something like this item, why not sell it as a complete item like it originally was?

I appreciate most of the comments here, and it serves as a wakeup to me to pay more attention and ask more questions when I buy something without seeing it in pictures at least. I've bought hundreds of things off eBay without a problem and only a couple off forums like this...and this is my second problem. The first I never received the item and the seller didn't refund...but this was before Paypal existed.
