Pet owners

I've been feeding my dogs Nutro Ultra. They are doing realy well on it. My Springer is highly allergic to corn so rice is the better of the food choices other than raw. I will be switching them to raw foods this summer to see how they do with it.

Nutro here as well- no arguing with THIS coat...

If you're really interested in the RAW diet for him, you'll have to join this site, but it seems to have EVERYTHING you need to know about the diet All About Great Danes

...and if it seems overwhelming, I've got info on a homeopathic vet in NC that helped my Mom with her Springer Spaniel after years of trying everything else for skin problems...you don't have to go see him, just a phone consult and he'll put you on the right path...

I use pro plan performance... on all my dog's......they have plenty of energy, and no skin problems with them.. it's 39.00 for a 37.5lb bag.. lasts about 2wks w/ these monsters.. I havent' tried raw but alot of folk's i work dog's with, swear by it..... can't go wrong w/ any of the higher end brands... stay away from the 15 dollar special's... lot's of filler's....

This thread bummed me out....

We recently started feeding both our dogs (2yo Aussie, 4month German Sheperd) National Dog Food. I talked to 5 breeders including the one I bought my puppy from and that is all she feeds her dogs. I found a lady in Prineville OR that buys this stuff 5 tons at a time for her 35 Tumnatki Huskies. Everyone I talked to swears by it. She sold me the 40lb bags for $30.00 which is a great price.

The link RoadThing posted above is why I am bummed. It shows this food is only a 2 Star rating and is not recommended. Can all the breeders I spoke to be wrong? Our dogs love it.

I'll try to NOT bash breeders here, but it's kind of hard...every breeder is convinced that they know THE ANSWER and anything else is just wrong...every breeder pushes something different...somewhere in there something is bound to not mesh...

Time to just do some research and choose what you feel is best for your dog...not every dog likes the same stuff, not every dog will take to what your breeder recommended. Don't worry about what you've been told; research on your own and make your own choices...adjust as necessary...

Trust no one.
Thank Gore for the Internet.

Sorry to ruin your trust in your pet's food. I know how it is.
I researched for days when we got Justice as a puppy. But as money grows tighter, high quality dog food is way down on the priority list. Now I'll have a huge vet bill. Doesn't pay in the long run

I should know better.

BTW... Here they are. The Aussie swims about 10 times a day. The food I mentioned earlier helps keep his coat soft which the chlorine tries to suck out of it.

We had a Lab that had the same skin problem. I think it may have even been worse than your dog's. She had lost about 45% of her fur. We tried doing 3 chemical dips to help, but nothing helped.

We were close to putting her down when she was only 2 years old. THen someone mentioned that we try giving her a tsp of flax seed oil on her food every day. It really was a miracle.

Flax is omega 3 rich, and pretty cheap. Try a bottle out, and hopefully you see an improvement.

Nutro Ultra contains a fair amount of Omega 3 in it. Both of my dogs love it, and are very exited for supper. My Springer has fur that feels like silk. My Sheppard's fur is super soft and shiny.

Here's the results:
