Police targeting sportbikes

No doubt most the riders out there bring it on themselves. I would probably bet there were 3 times the amount of cruiser guys getting messed up out there and they are pretty much left alone.  I would bet more than half the cruisers out there are drinking or drunk and have no license endorsement.
You are correct. I am going to be 48 this month and I am starting to get a little, okay, a lot of gray hair. So when an over-eager Leo stops me in my full face helmet and then see's that I am an older rider and not the typical squid, he will just talk about the Busa for a few minutes and let me go about my beeswax..
No harm, no foul.
I understand the Leo's being tired of the squids antics on sportbikes. I wish them luck (Leo's).

Just turned 48.
You get funny looks when you are older than the officers.

Man that reminds me of my small town upbringing! I had a 69 Mach 1 with a 428 Cobra Jet, built motor and open headers. We would stop by and talk to the cop who worked part time at the gas station. When we left we would see how long of a burnout we could do. His cop car had a 455 (?) Intercepter motor and the speedometer was certified. He took us for a ride one day. That was the first time I ever went 145 MPH. That car floated like a boat on water! Man was it fun!!

I got pulled going home from the track. Motor officer said he got me at 64 in a 50. He was cool about it, didn't give me any lip about "you sport bike riders" or anything. Could have written me a $150 ticket + points...but wrote me up for loud pipes. $74 bucks and no points.

Oh well !!
YOU got a ticket on a sportbike for loud pipes at Daytona?

I think the troopers target all bikes equally. If they see or hear a flagrant violation, they'll write you. The last time I was in Daytona, I saw numerous Harleys with apehanger bars getting equipment violations. Tops of the handle bars can't be a certain height over the seat. Saw it at Sturgis as well.

Yea I saw them writing them up for ape hangers again this year. I believe they can't be above their shoulders.
I saw a cool BMW, don't know what model, that had ape hangers on it. It actually looked really cool. Definitely unique.

You have to remember that these events that draw 100's and thousands of people are sadly an important source of revenue for the local and state angencies. A lot of these enforcement stings are not present during other times of the year where they are just sitting and waiting for a violation to drive by. As the old saying goes... Make hay while the sun shines

one of the reasons I ride 2-up alot.... I have YET to get pulled over whith the old lady one back.
*knocking on wood as I type this*

I almost always get the evil look from cops but they have all been nice when I get pulled over. You should really see them look at me in the winter when I riding by on the busa in the 20's.
