Power commander question

Hey guys,

My buddy has an 04 limited with full yoshi exhaust and K&N. His bike has been running like sh*t lately. It cuts out on him at 7-9 grand. He was running 93 in it and sometimes would put 110 in it. I got him to quit doing that and he said it has improved somewhat. I thought it may be running lean, but it smells very rich when I am behind him? At first he couldnt believe I ran just 87 in mine. I did 93 once and couldnt tell a difference. With gas at 3 buck a gallon I will stick with 87!

Here are the questions:

1. Any ideas on what is wrong?
2. Where can he get a good price on the commander?
3. I have an 06 with R-22 bling slipons only, would I notice a difference with the commander?

I told him I would asks the experts at the org

Thanks.

It's been well stated on here that the Busa was designed for and runs better on 87. A rough guess would be about 90% of the members run 87. I ran 93 then after a slight education I switched to 87 and it runs great.

I got my Power Commander from street and track (board sponser). They will just about beat anybody on the net price wise.

I got a stock bike and got a PC IIIusb and I could tell a difference. From what I understand, stock Busa run a tad lean for emissions, the PC will throw all that out the window, bike will idle better and have quicker throttle response.

As far as your buddies bike cutting out...

Somebody else will have to take that one.

I noticed a BIG diff when I added a Cobra FI2000R to my Viper bolt-ons and BMC filter. I would think you'd prolly have similair results with a pcIII. Although I wouldn't bother with any spendy dyno tuning.....I think its kinda a waste unless your REALLY having running probs with your map or your VERY picky.

I'm not a great PCIII fan with minor mods. I've seen to many guys with Problems generated by their power comander. Many have now removed their power commander and gotten rid of a head ache. Big horse power, Power Commander yes! With slipon cans and airbox mod only, your dealer can tweak the one you have to add a touch more fuel and you are good to go.

The symptoms you're describing also occur when a fuel pump is going out. They fall flat after 7000. Also, and this is more likely what is going on, after your run a few tanks of race fuel through your bike, the plugs will almost for sure get fouled out. If it's popping at higher rpms and running rough down low this may be your problem. It's happened to me three times. Now I just excpect to chage out plugs after a couple of tanks of race fuel. Easy to check for and easy to fix. That's where I'd start, Good luck--JT
