I have owned 4 ford diesel's two 7.3's and two 6.0's I didnt care for the 7.3's as they were low on power and didnt like to start in the cold. The 6.0 mated to the 5 speed auto is a great combination I had an 04 and traded it for an 06 I do run the edge products Juice system on my 06 it gives me up to 120 more hp and I gained almost 2 mpg on the highway I purchased it through my ford dealer so they are also honoring my factory warranty on my engine
My work truck is a dodge with the cummins and to me they dont compare they are way behind the times since both ford and chevy have had the variable vane turbos for years now which lets these engines build boost right off of idle and reduces turbo lag greatly. Also neither of my 6.0's have ever let me down not once I am due for a new truck in the next year or so but I wont buy the new 6.4 it has had numerous issues with the turbos and its fuel milage is worse than the 6.0's I am holding out to see what ford offers in the 2010's as they have to meet the new strictor emmissions and all the big three will have to make changes. These new rules are scaring many manufacturers away from over the road diesel engines caterpillar has stopped making on highway engines and chrysler has just announced that they are going to stop producing the Sterling brand trucks this year.
I would highly recomend buying the 6.0 you wont be sorry
