Prep for exhaust system

I have a full Akropovic exhaust system for my Gen 1 on the way and need help figuring what to do. I got the cold air block off kit ready and a power commander on the way. I need to know if I should do the air box mod and what a good map for my setup would be. The power commander site has a map for the Akropovic system but does not mention any air box mods. Also my bike has a k&n filter and would like to know if it would be worth going to a BMC like filter. Eventually I will get a custom map if I can find a good place in my area. Any help would be great.

Personally I would do the small box mod also and don't waste your money on changing the filter since you have a K&N (even though OEM makes more power). Take her somewhere to get a custom map done and don't waste your time loading one off the commander site (unless you just want it for the ride to the dyno).

Just make sure you cover the radiator with cardboard or something so when you remove the bolts you can swing it forward without it getting dinged up. Otherwise it's a pretty straight forward install. You'll be shocked at home much different the bike feels loosing all the weight... :beerchug:

I would also have the bike dynoed before and after so you know what kind of gains you see... ;)

Thanks "Got-Busa?" for the information. For a custom map I know there is someone good in Portland I heard about a while back. Eugene or Salem is a little easier to access for me though. Am I looking at a few hundred for a map probably? I guess considering what I have put into the thing in the last month its change.

Ok. I did the small air box mod today and bought a BMC filter just for the heck of it I guess. Tomorrow I will do the pair valve system removal and block off. I still need a map that can get me by for a little while until I find a good place to get a custom one done. Am I missing anything? Besides the map of course.

I yanked off the pair valve system and did the block off. I ended up taking the whole radiator and oil cooler totally off. I have no idea how one could work in there without doing this. I am changing to a muzzy aluminum cooling fan and honda fan control switch also so removing the radiator would probably be a must. Stock exhaust came off just fine. I also ordered some cheapo velocity stacks to replace the two longer tubes. From what I read it makes little if any difference. Anyhow I could still use help with a map if anyone has one they can offer.

I would consider seriously bringing your bike to a pro to tune correctly on a dyno. Congratulations on your upgrades, obviously your one who cares much about the bike. Ride on!

The only person I know even close that I would recommend is Daniel in Portland.

Top quality work... CloudNineMotorSports.com Website is Gone

He may even send you a base map to hold you over until you get a tune. Give him a call or PM him on here... ;)

Thanks for the tip on the shop. I will look into that. The only other one I was able to track down was EDR in Portland which a couple people suggested. Someone who sells power commanders and other fuel injection stuff was nice enough to put a custom map together for me based on my setup. Its probably not as good as a custom dyno tuned map of course but should be better than the ones on the power commander website. Its different for sure.

As for the short stacks I kinda bought those on a whim. Not even sure if I will install them. I am on the fence about it. From what I heard it takes a couple hp off the bottom and puts em at the top. Some have been happy with them.

I just got back from having a dyno tuned custom map made with Daniel at Cloudninemotorsports up in Portland. What a blast watching the process. You can really tell he wants to get it right. I am totally convinced a custom map is the only way to go. Great experience and the bike just rips.

Hey the bike runs great. I love it. Thanks for checking. The weather down here as well as up there I am sure has been pretty terrible but I have got it out a couple times.
