Problem with 99

Ok i bought the bike from a kid that didnt know anything about it. said he bought it off a friend and needed some work. clean car fax and numbers, but it was missin the plug that goes into the gauges. i found a plug at a junk yard and had it mailed to me. the problem is that there are a couple wires that are not matching up or i dont know which is what. on the bike harness its self, i have a yellow with black stripe and 2 black with white stripe. then on the plug i got there are 3 black with white stripe wires. no yellow and black. any ideas. not sure on the year it came off of. assuming its 01 and up. i cant find a good wiring diagram to show me the pin out. ****s aggravating me though. any help is greatly appreciated. the bike is running fine and cranks up, but the tach isnt working and the digital display is not working so i dont know. thanks in advance. all fuses are good also.

Are we talking about a Busa? And when you say digital display do you mean the time and mileage? Because no Hayabusas have a digital dash. Maybe this will help. I took this picture when my speedometer and mileage were not working. at first I thought it was the speed sensor but a friend named Quasar recommended that I check the wiring. Does this look similar to what you have if not you might not have the factory harness and don't think they changed the wiring color at all over the years.

yes its a 99 busa. i bought the bike and the plug was missing and it has 180 gagues so i dont even know if the gauges work. i'll take some pics later on today, but the problem is all the wires matched up with the colors except for 3. the harness has a yellow with black stripe and 2 black with white stripe. the plug (that does plug into the gauges) has 3 black with white stripe. i'll get some pics later on. thanks alot for responding. and yes the digital part of the gauges and the speedo/rpm isnt working correctly. but the nuetral and high beam was working.

Try to roll back some of the insulation to make sure none of the wires in the harness have been kinked or broken. The fact that it has a 180 speedo and it's a 99 should tell you that it's been replaced at one point because that year had the 220 MPH speedometer.

can anyone take a picture of the wires that go into the plug itsself. pull the black rubber piece back and take a pic for me. thanks alot.

i have. i found some plices they had made in the harness. they just twisted the wires together. i fixed them right but i still have to figure out the wiring for the gauges then go from there when i know that is right. i havent seen any other broken wires tho.

You are trying to mate a guage for either a 01' or 02' and higher to a 99' and it wont work as plug and play. The way it works is 99' and 00' compatible, 01' is on its own, 02' and up compatible I guess up to 07'. 01' and up is when that speed governer and other crap was added so they had to make some changes. The same goes with the FI and ECU.

so what your saying is i need to just get the pin out for the 99/00 and just put the wires where the pinout calls for and not worry about the coloring from the plug that i got?

thanks alot. from the impression that i got, all gauges were interchangeable so i figured that the pinout would be the same on all the wiring harnesses...

i'm also fighting this 240 conversion they put on the bike. the front sprocket thats 1/4 offset was on backwards and ate up the rc back wheel. i flipped it around the chain is rubbing a lil. they didnt grind the frame enough for clearance. so i am almost done with that and i can concentrate on the front plug. everones help is appreciated.

if its a 99 and the gauge cluster is an 01 or above (since it doesnt go up to 220mph)the plug and play from a 99 wont work? correct? may have to just search for a new gauge cluster off a 99 and start over
