Problems w/trailer converter turn signal mod

After weeding through about 5 pages of search results I'm giving up and asking for help.

I just finished wiring in a trailer converter to eliminate the stock turn signals using the instructions found HERE.

The turn signals flash normally until I hit the brakes then switch to rapid flash, when I let off the brakes they go back to normal.

Will a heavy duty flasher remedy this or is there some other fix?

I believe you need to add the 6.8 resistors to each side. I did this same mod and I have never used my signals. I only ride the busa in the hills behind my house, or during daylight hours I use my hand.

Sounds like somethings not wired quite right. You are flashing fast because of a higher load on the system than the flasher is rated. Since it flashes normally without the brake light, the turn signal is wired correctly. The fast flash while braking makes me think the brake light is also wired to the flasher. Either that, or your integrator is merging the signals.

I haven't studied it really hard yet, (maybe next weekend) but I believe you may be right about the signals being merged by the box. Guess I'll just have to keep playing with it till I get it figured out. Thanks for the help folks!

I did the same thing and you have them wired correctly.  I personally like it flashing fast when you hit the brakes, it grabs peoples attention better.  When you hit the brakes with the blinker on it puts an extra load on and that is why it blinks fast. But if you want to fix it you will need to put some kind of resistor in line with the wires.

I'll have to agree. Mine flash fast with the brakes and people always comment and ask how I got it to do that. It really does grab the attention of people behind and prevents any close calls.

Shouldn't be on the brakes in a turn? Sorry, couldn't help myself...

I've seen that on most "trailer" signal setups they do that.

I wouldn't mind it being fast if if were still reconizable as a turn signal. Problem is that it is so fast that it just seems as though the brake light is flickering as if it has a loose connection. I'll get out my big 'ol box of power resistors next weekend and see if I can come up with a fix.
