Ladies and Gents,
Yes it happened to me. The proverbial didn't see, you left turn jackass crossed paths with me yesterday. He was driving a very old Renault, the little breadbox type. I have to say that I was driving conservatively and very near the posted speed limit. Having just fueled up at the Benzin/petrol/gas station only 200-300 meters up the road I started out on the way home at a relaxed pace. The driver of the car was approaching in the opposite direction and looked like he would turn left but had no indicator lit. I thought that I saw him slow in order to stop but that was just braking to initiate the turn. I was no more than 20 feet from impact traveling at about 60-65kph (about 45mph) when I braked. The skid marks of his car didn't start until he was in my lane. I collided with the car and was already angry before the impact occured. I was wearing my Corona Suzuki leather Jacket, Shoei RF-1000 helmet, leather pants (non padded jean type), Police kevlar gloves, and my Carolina engineer boots. My left leg impacted the car below the knee and I hit the deck on my right thigh and elbow. My head didn't hit the ground and the helmet only endured light scrubbing. The right arm of my jacket got abrased and my left pant leg got gouged up by what I think was the car's grille at impact. I came to a rest on the ground about 15 feet from impact and my right qaudricep muscle got a big bruised welt from hitting the curb. My left lower leg swelled up severely, as I was sliding I saw it move in a way that made me think I broke it, but it is solid as a rock. I got up, shook it off and started yelling at the poor bastard driver asking him in Bosnian what the phuck he was thinking and he just replied jebiga ti birzo (its phucked up you were fast) My ass I was fast he just didn't look ahead instead of looking to the turn.
The bike is destroyed. The force of the impact fractured the frame at the triple tree welds. The entire weld seam separated, my oil cooler is damaged as it leaked all over the place and the whole front body section is irreparable. The gas tank even was pushed up and it's front mounting flange looks a little bent. I am not sure if the engine was jarred but who knows. Luckily I invested in a good insurance policy with full coverage. We'll have to wait and see the outcome of that. Black Purple Busa RIP 07-30-2004 1720 local CET. Sarajevo Bosnia. If I had been dressed like the typical local rider I would be much more rashed up.
