Yeah I tell all the guys don't worry about the $800 muffler on the estimate I'll take care of it for you They show up to pick up bike and it's got a pipe and tuned and they like you waved the Golden Wand

honestly that is nothing in comparison to when mine fell over. insurance claimed 4800 in damage from a tip over. got all of the left side plastics and pegs and muffler. mirror was scuffed, crank case was scuffed. scrathes on plastics from bottom to top. it was a horrible winter morning. all is fixed now with the help of daniel. did you know the factory muffler is worth some incredible 800 bucks? its how i got my brocks steet meg system.

i had no sliders at the time. all the lsl sliders would have done is cost me more to repair the crash pad on the lsl sliders. in a crash though, i would definately trust these things. best of all they are a piece of cake. no need to even remove the plastics.

That doesn't look that nasty, without the frame sliders the damage could been very very worse... A fall it's part of the riding experience, you are OK, your passenger (if any) it's ok, that's what's matters. I know it's very frustrating to see your bike like that... but hey, it's still in one piece, you can still ride it. Have fun!

I think you are exactly right. I thought that there job was to keep the plastics off the ground. I think the ones that require drilling a hole through the fairing would have done a better job. In retrospect, the ones I have are too low, and the slider tends to pivot the bike onto the top of the fairing.

I wouldn't expect any slider to protect a bike from a real crash. What would you expect a body shop to charge to paint both the fairings? They can't put the graphics back on, so it would take two to match.

I'm looking at your bike. Is the windshield light or dark smoke? I had the dark smoke, and when you looked through it with a dark smoke visor, the view becomes pretty dark--when you have your chin on the tank on a high speed run.

Yeah, I'm getting over it, sort of. I didn't even get a bruise. I had killed the engine, and having thought I put the kick stand down, I started to get off. My newly replaced knee seemed to give way long enough for the bike to reach the point of no return. The muffler didn't get a scratch, go figure.

Do you think that touch up paint would work. I'm thinking repaint. I'm not sure where to get that done. I've got all winter, is there someone you guys like that I could ship them to?

Yep mine was $4800 as well. My insurance was actually trying to total my bike from it. I fought that. But whew what an ordeal from a simple drop.

I have the T-Rex and Woodcraft stator cover. Pulled into the driveway with a bee in my jacket and jumped off the bike doing some insane dance and never put the kickstand down. Bike landed on the Woodcraft cover, slider and left clipon end. Scuffs only. Different damage is probably caused by how the front wheel was turned, whether you have stock cans, etc, etc. Lots of variables. Dropping your bike stinks!

personally I think frame sliders are gay. their for stunt riders who let go of their bikes vs. actually riding them.... been riding 25 years. nvr needed a frame sliders. if u go down ur bike is a wreck either way. I just dont see the point in putting a bandaid on an open wound.

Ordered a set of T-Rex no cuts a few days ago after searching old posts about them(Kromdom should recieve commision from T-Rex). Like others said, no frame slider is going to protect fairing unless its 2' long, but it should minimize damage.

I just dont see the point in putting a bandaid on an open wound.

the open wound is the tank, shield, mirrors, handlebars and most of the plastic that's not immediately sorrounded by the sliders gets destroyed so whats the point? everything gets screwed up anyway.

ive known several ppl to go down on their bikes and frame sliders did absolutely nothing but pogo their bike when it hit an uneven spot in the road when sliding and make the damage worse not less. the only thing frame sliders r good for is if u happen to drop ur bike in the garage.

I have dropped my bike on more then one occassion in the garage over the last 25 years ill admit but ill be damed if im gonna ride around lookn like a stunt rider on my busa that needs training wheels.

Yep, insurance companies want to total everything. Then give you the blue book for whatever year it is.

Changing the topic a little. Since the damage is only on the upper of the plastic, could a body shop paint that and make the new paint merge? Seems like it would be cheaper than trying to paint the whole thing, and what would they do about the graphics?

A good shop with a quality painter probably could, that is if the original paint matches what's on there. Being such a small piece to paint, you would be better off doing the whole panel. Graphics can be purchased via one of the oem sponsors and reapplied by you or the shop. 7 out of 10 people will replace the part as apposed to repairing as it is quicker, easier and possibly cheaper.
