Puig Windshield question

The Puig on my Gen 2 was definately harder to fit than the ZG on my Gen 1. I've had it on and off a few times and it's a little easier now. Seems like it shapes to the fairing after a while. It is thicker than the ZG is too. Great windshield. Take your time and it does help to have someone give you a hand the first install.

 Mine went in about 15 min job just take your time cant ride now anyway ands its a much better screen in my opinion good luck

really? just got mine in the mail yesterday and was all excited about popping her in tonight. i guess i am going the silicone spray route.

Am I the only one here that has to have three people to install their screen???

This thing is so far from just sliding in it is not even funny...

I thought maybe I was missing something, but the stocker slides right in using one hand! The Puig hits the black plastic under the nose and then hits the painted plastic as you try to slide it in...

Gonna have to wait for the wife to try and help me:banghead:

:lol:You're so right about this. I just bought a puig screen for my 08. When I tryed to put it on, I tought they had sent me the wrong item. I almost sent it back. I'll try again when it's not too cold and try to warm the screen in the sun a bit to gain some flex. I hope it won't break. :please:

It is in/on....

Sprayed a little silicone spray, and with my friends help, we got one side in, then the other. Never had such a difficult time with a screen before.

He said his wasn't as difficult, but still a PITA

WD-40/silicone spray works wonders. Glad to hear it worked.

Glad you finally got it in. We form windscreens at my place all the time. I would let it warm up a little bit then try again. If its made out of Polycarbonate should not break. However if its Acrylic and cold could become brittle and break.

just threw mine on with my buddy because last night i was ready to shoot the bike in frustration. 2 people minimum to install this little bugger and well worth the hassle. the quality of puig is top notch i also used a dab of vasoline for the grommits which helped considerably.

I just did mine and it was a PITA. I'm glad I read this thread first though, or i might have given up.

If doesn't feel like something's about to break you're doing it wrong.:mad2:

Mine was a pain in the Butt also, Be careful cause you can easily crack the fairing up by the mirror, Especially if ya get frustrated and decide to just get it close and then knock it in with your hand.

+1 my buddy broke his the other day when we were fighting it in place. Im going to the the OEM double for my gen II

My Puig DB was also a pain to install. I did it alone, but it took a few minutes longer than it probably should have. It started to develop stress cracks a few months later, but Puig replaced it for me. I never installed the replacement, and now use a ZG sport touring screen. The only lube I used was a drop of dishwashing liquid to reinstall the rubber grommets.

It didn't look too good when I took my Puig screen out of the packing and tried it on the bike, it was stiff and didn't look like it would fit in. That was in february and cold as hell. At one point, I tough I would break it so I left it alone until it warmed up. I left the screen in the sun for an hour and it became very flexible. It took me 10 minutes to install it and it's perfect. No cracks..nothing. Looks very good.

Doh, you're right. I didn't look at the forum. My bad.

Yep, Gen1s seem to be much easier to work on. Fairings are easier, windshields are easier. And since we're in this forum, they're nicer to look at too. :poke:

Well ya see why the GENII's dont really fit all the great on the windscreen is they figured most people that see a GENII are behind trying to catch up. Thats why the rear tail looks so much nicer on the GenII's LOL!!:poke::rofl::poke:

Glad I read this as I was about to buy one.

Even with the hardache of installation would you buy another one the same again?
Or would you look for an alternative?

I was going to go with a double bubble also. I began to research it, used google and found some interesting opinions on the double bubble. The majority says it causes your head to bob around at high speeds due to it messes with the OEM erodynamics of the bike. This turned me away from the double bubble. Now if I wanted to put one on for looks then yes I love the way they look, but I do ride at high speeds alot and dont care for dirty air bouncing me around.
